I am considering submitting an additional recommendation from a community service organization supervisor, and I was wondering if that would be a good idea or not. I do think that it will provide a different side of me, but I saw that he suggestions for additional recommendations listed on the MIT blog are “research mentors, youth group leaders, coaches, and bosses” - no community service related ones. Should I go for it or will it not matter much to the application process?
Bump…
“Research mentors, youth group leaders, coaches, and bosses” are just examples. As long as you know this person well - and this person acknowledges your skills, weaknesses, and ambitions - then he could write you a recommendation letter. It could even be your Boy Scouts Scoutmaster or someone else whom you respect and has influenced your life a lot. Also, stay away from a third teacher recommendation unless this person primarily was your mentor, club advisor, or some role other than your teacher.
