additional rec

does columbia allow you to send in 2 additional letters of recs?

They strongly discourage more than 2 recs, so 2 more would probably be too much

People have gotten in with additional recs and without additional recs. I got in without sending anything extra. I'd say send the extra letters only if they're crucial to understanding you as an applicant and you're sure they won't say similar stuff to what the other ones already say. Some admissions officers' pet peeve is students who won't follow directions.

I sent in one extra recommendation in addition to 2 teachers + guidance counselor. It was from a college professor at Harvard who had taught me chemistry.

They strongly recommend that you refrain from sending extra recommendations unless you have worked with the person in a college or research setting. That being said, you can do whatever you want--exercise your best judgment.
