Additional Recommendation

I am applying to Penn and I’d like to submit an additional recommendation letter? In particular, I’m wondering if it is beneficial or harmful to get an additional recommendation letter from my social worker wit Dyfus. On the one hand, I thought it can help clarify the dip in my grades particularly during 9th and 10th grades and how much I’ve subsequently overcome. On the other hand, I didn’t want to look like I have substantial personal issues and wouldn’t be a functioning member of the college community. Thanks!!

I think the only way you can assure it’ll be a helpful rec is by speaking with the social worker from Dyfus. Try to make them understand the real purpose of asking them to write it: to help rationalize a dip in your grades. If they agree that they can write something that will achieve your purpose, then I say go for it.

Only do it if you’re 100% comfortable with it. We can’t tell what’s best for you over the internet.

Is this for Early or Regular Decision?

@computerage regular obviously.

@ComputerAge Yes Regular Decision. @c777123 Yes that’d be my purpose, about rationalizing the dip. If he doesn’t feel comfortable commenting on how that might be at least indirectly the case, then there’d be no other point in the letter

You can also explain changes in grades during the interview if you feel comfortable doing so. I always ask the applicant if there is anything the applicant would like to tell Admission; Penn does encourage asking that that question.
