I have heard of some applicants sending in reference letters to USNA Admissions in addition to the English/Math teachers recommendation. I am hesitant to send anything in that is not asked for. Will letters from politicians or military personnel help?

From what I've read in the "Canidate Handbook" that I got from Amazon, I think that it's better to only send what they ask for.

I had my principal send in a reference. I think If you're going to, make sure it is from someone who knows the candidate VERY well, and can make a significant addition to his file

It is quite acceptable to send additional letters of recommendation to the Naval Academy within reason. Twenty six letters is not acceptable; however, one or two extremely positive letters will help. Don't send letters from someone who knows someone who knows Seanator McCain. The letters need to be from someone who knows you personally. They do not have to be written by "big shots."
