I need to take organic chemistry as a summer course and am looking for suggestions regarding where is best to take it. If I opted to take it at Hudson Valley, I could take Organic Chem 1 and 2 lecture (as two 6-week sessions meeting MWF) with either Professor Padula or Professor Zubrik. If I went to SUNY Albany this summer, I would have to take Organic Chem 1 with Professor Sayahi and Organic Chem 2 with Professor Welch (as two 4-week sessions meeting MTWThF). I checked “Rate my professor” and the Hudson Valley professors have better ratings, but I was hoping someone might be able to give me advice for a better place to take it as a student that just hopes to fill a major requirement but has a learning disability and struggles with chemistry? Thank you so much!
I don’t imagine there would be too many of us who could respond to your inquiry about specific faculty at two schools. You actually need more information about the teaching style of all four faculty. Do take the classes one at a time. Also register at the disability office of the school or schools you choose so you can get approved accommodations. If you have not registered with the disability office of your home school, do so immediately so accommodations can follow you. Have you taken chemistry before,? What about your LD makes taking chemistry difficult for you? Can you earn credit at a community college that may have a better teaching style or requirements that you can transfer to your school. If you ha e time now or a coming interim, read a chemistry book from your school library that you can read comfortably as preparation.
You want the school with the easiest tests, the most favorable grading system, and a tutor who has taken the class who can tutor you twice a week. Sometimes it’s better if the final has less weight, and the labs, lab write-ups and quizzes have more weight, unless it is test taking that you really excel at. Good luck
