I’m not sure why this happened but my residency status is CA non-resident, yet I was born and had lived in CA all my life. Could the issue be that on my application, I reported that my parents are non residents? I noticed this mistake when i received my acceptance letter from CSUDH. Is this normal? How can I fix this mistake?
Are your parents actually residents or non-residents?
For CSUs, new students under the age of 19 derive their residency status from that of their parents.
See http://www.calstate.edu/sas/residency/ and http://www.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/residence_classification.asp for more information.
Gosh I’m so naive! My parents told me that they were not residents of CA, but they have been living in CA for about 20 years. That kind off confused me during the application period b/c I wasn’t sure if residency and citizenship status was correlated…So they are immigrants, dont have papers, etc, but have resided here for a good amount of time. So I’m not sure if they are legitimate residents? Any input?
Here is the CSU residency information and questionnaire from CSULA:

Note that there is also AB540, if you graduated from a California high school after attending at least three years, and are not on a non-immigrant visa:
