admission by examination

For UCs - if you fall short of the 3.0 GPA that UCs calculate, how does one apply with - admission by examination? How do you do that?

See the link below:
Just an FYI, even at the minimum of 3.0 UC GPA, chances at any of the UC’s even UCR/UCM are slim.

Also admission by examination is usually used to fulfill the a-g course requirements.

If in-state CA, consider many of the very good Cal States as an option.

It is likely that admission (eligibility) by examination is mainly for special cases (e.g. home school applicants), rather than applicants in regular high schools with low grades or missing a-g courses.

Did anybody get in? My UC score was 459. Is it real or just a way to get more people to apply?

Then it wouldn’t take much effort for the admissions people to spell out these ‘special cases.’ As they didn’t, why not take the language at its face? But then again, I only got a 35 on my ACT.

Did you work with a counselor? Did you try to contact UC admissions to find out how “admission by examination” worked and which instances? I agree the website is very vague, so before I would pin all my hopes on this method, I would have done some research to find out how it could work for me.

Again, why wouldn’t one take the language at its face?

I have gone through the UC admission process with my son’s and relatives and I what I have found when it comes to college admissions is there are no guarantees and you need to do research on your own. There is a lot of vague information posted out on the websites and in many instances I think it is a way to avoid transparency when it comes to college admissions. Did you look at the 14 areas of criteria that the UC’s use for evaluating an application? Test scores are only a small part of the application. Again the website states that you can use “Admission by examination” to be CONSIDERED. No where on the website does it state that you are Guaranteed admission by this method or any other. I am not aware of any college that will accept any applicant just based on Test scores only…

You just need to move on.

I have no choice other than moving on. All I’m saying is if the page is disingenuous, take it down, and take it down now.

If you don’t meet UC’s minimum requirements, you may be considered for admission to UC if you earn HIGH scores on the ACT with Writing or SAT and two SAT Subject Tests.

To qualify by examination, you must achieve a minimum UC Score total — calculated according to the instructions below — of 410 (425 for nonresidents). In addition, you must earn a minimum UC Score of 63 on each component of the ACT or SAT Reasoning Test and on each SAT Subject Test.

If 425 is ‘high’, what is 459?
