Admission chances?

I’m a senior this year.
4.04 weighted GPA, 8/405 in my class
Scores of 5 on AP Biology, European History, English Language, Psychology; 4 on US History, and an unfortunate 2 in Calc AB

My courses this year:
AP Government
AP Statistics
AP English Lit.
Honors Physics
Physiology/Pathophysiology II
Medical Microbiology/Hereditary Medicine
Scientific Research and Writing
Keyboarding (I know that’s slack…I need it to graduate)

Junior Year courses:
AP Calc AB
AP US History
AP Psychology
AP English Language & Comp.
AP Biology
Physiology/Pathophysiology I
Dual Enrollment Emergency Medical Tech.

I’m in an Academy type program within a public school for students interested in health sciences, so I take courses like Pathophysiology and Microbiology in addition to regular high school classes. I’m also a VA state certified EMT.

I have 200 or so hours volunteer work teaching horseback riding to elementary school aged children (including 100 with mentally handicapped kids) and now do so for pay. I’m a camp counselor during the summer.

I’m varsity captain of my school’s Scholastic Bowl team (also called quiz bowl, college bowl, etc in other places) and will be joining (and likely captaining) the debate team this year.

I’m on the city’s Mayor’s Youth Council and attended by invitation a meeting with the Governor on the state of high school education. Last summer I attended the Governor’s Foreign Language Academy for German Immersion.

I do have 2 rather serious holes in my record - a C in Calculus my junior year, and a few Bs (and one C) in credit courses I took in middle school (algrebra-C, Earth science and geometry-B)

SAT:
CR: 800
math: 680
writing: 710
essay: 10

taking 3 SATIIs and the ACT in October…

Also, I would try out for their NCAA Equestrian Team, if that makes a difference

your low math scores might hurt you..you might want to explain that in the additional info section. otherwise, i think you're okay--try to emphasize your strong points and do well on your sat ii's (i believe brown only requires 2)

I plan to explain on all my applications that in my middle school credit courses, I didn't realize that those credits were permanant (how can you hold me responsible for something I did accidentally when I was TWELVE?!). As for calculus, my teacher, my parents, and my counselor demanded that I drop the course (at one point I had a 16%) but I insisted on finishing out the course and did so, earning a C. I guess that proves persistance? (or at least extreme stubbornness)

bump......

i really don't think your math score would hurt you that much...

the informational packet they sent me said in the recommended course of study section that all students should have taken 4 years of english, etc, etc, all the normal stuff...but also that you should have taken art or music for one year. My 'art credit' that I needed to graduate is keyboarding. Will a lack of fine art/music affect my chances? I did take piano for 5 years when I was younger, but I still can't play a note!

I've been doing a lot of thinking, and I have almost decided to apply ED. The more I look into it, the more I desperately want to go to Brown! Their cognitive neuroscience program is EXACTLY what I am looking for.
Will ED improve my chances at all?

bump. this is my number one choice, I'm talking burning desire to attend. I need help!

why did you decide to take the ACT this fall and not re-take the SAT (not implying your scores are bad), im just wondering bc i didnt know whether or not taking both the SAT and ACT will help or hinder?

and if i do take the ACT, i know ill hardly study...thoughts?

I decided not to retake the SAT because my scores will only drop. I figure taking the ACT means more scores to look at and I know I'll do OK because I'm good at taking tests.
