Chances of acceptance to Brown

Hey, I’m planning on applying to brown and I was hoping that you guys could give me an idea of what my chances are. I’m planning on applying for a Biology major or at least something related to Bio since brown doesn’t have a pre med program. Here are my statistics:

SAT’s: 2170 (700 CR, 720 M, 750 W). Haven’t taken any subject tests yet but am planning to take the BIO E/M and Chemistry subject tests in the fall.

UW GPA is 3.6something and W is around 4.2 I’ve been taking challenging courses throughout high school, including the IB Diploma Program in my Junior year and now upcoming senior year, along with a total of around 8 or 9 Honors classes throughout my freshman and sophomore years (the greatest number of H courses available at my school for those years).
My school is a very competitive International school in Athens, Greece but it doesn’t report class ranking due to the small number of students in each grade (between 70-90).

My EC’s are okay:
-4 years of soccer (2 years at varsity level). our team competes in the ISST tournament, a tournament between various international schools in europe
-Debate team
-4 Years of playing the Guitar
-Treasurer of Student Council
Planning on joining MUN (model united nations) in senior year

Volunteer Work:
-worked in Neurology department at a greek private hospital
-volunteer work at archipelagos (a organization researching and preserving marine life in greece)
-Started an english learning program at a greek day care
-work with the Make a Wish foundation
-tree planting

Any responses would really be appreciated.

I would say your EC’s are more than okay. Try to get your GPA up as much as possible Senior year, and you’ll be in good shape. I would say low-reach (you’ll probably get in).

i do not agree with fotetennis…i feel that Brown is not going to be low reach for you…u have a good profile but there are many others like you…so be prepared to hear bad news also…give your SAT 2’s properly and get your SAT score up if possible and work on your GPA!!

Thank you for responding. i agree with bugsbunny382, i don’t think its a low reach. i was thinking more along the lines of high reach since it is brown. i am taking the sat 1 again in october and sat 2’s in november and if i have time december, so i believe they’ll go up, plus i’ll try to raise GPA as much as possible. Brown would be my number 1 choice but i don’t have that high hopes because i know how hard it is to get in and how much harder it has gotten in the past years. any recommendations of where else to apply? im mainly looking into the northeast. so far have tufts, BC, NYU, BU (safety), and Northeastern on my list. any suggestions?

I agree with bugsbunny. To say you will most likely get in is an absurd statement. Have you seen some of the applicant’s who have been rejected from Brown? A lot clobber you [and me] in almost all areas. Write a killer, personal essay and try to get your grades and test scores up. Then your guess is as good as mine - meaning it is all a crap shoot. Good luck!

PS foretennis, the acceptance rate at Brown this year was 8.7% [Princeton 8.4%], the 6th most difficult school in the country to get into. Because you will be a sophomore in high school you may not really understand the rigors of getting into an Ivy League school.

anyone want to give some fresh opinions? i forgot to mention that i had a payed job working in an office for General Electric. Neurosurgery wing volunteer work was about 120+ hours. got to observe surgery such as spinal cord disc replacement (scrubbed up and all and was less than 3 feet away from the surgeon the entire time). archipelagos volunteer hours: 80. Any new opinions would be appreciated
