I am a current junior who is really interested in applying Early Action to Georgetown’s school of foreign service. I have from the wealthier suburbs of Philadelphia, and am a white female.
I attended an information session the main thing they said about admission is that they look for proof of language learning capacity and quantitative skills, which I would say are the two strongest pieces of my application.
Although I speak French at home with my dad, I have taken Spanish at school. Freshman and sophomore year I took 2H and 3H respectively, however I was always at the top of my class since it was really easy for my to learn and understand Spanish. The summer before junior year I traveled to Spain and took Spanish classes, and was able to skip 4H. So, as a Junior I am taking AP. My teacher has said I am one of the strongest students in my AP class, especially in terms of writing. This year I also started taking French at school (I had never learned formally before) and am in 4H. Although I cannot take another Spanish course next year (we have nothing after 5/AP) I am looking into taking Portuguese online.
Otherwise, I am taking AP Physics-C Mechanics and BC calc. I will get an A in Physics and A- probably in calc. Next year in terms of AP’s I plan on taking Econ, French and Chem (and honors linear algebra for math).
The weakest part of my application are my scores. I took the SAT in Nov and got a 1410. However, I retook this past weekend. Freshman year I got a 740 on bio. I’ll take Spanish and French this year and get 780+ for both I’m pretty sure. My GPA is currently a 5.0.
My extracurriculars also don’t quite line up with foreign service. My strongest extra curricular I would say is that I play the double bass in a high level orchestra (outside of school), a rare instrument in many college orchestras.
Is there anything you would recommend me to do to have a good shot at being admitted at Georgetown’s SFS? Anything thoughts/ideas would be appreciated!! Thanks!!!
