Admission into UC Berkley, UCLA, USC?

Hi, I was wondering about my chances of getting into UC Berkley, UCLA, USC
I live in California. Thank you for reading and replying I really appreciate it.

I would apply as Econ for Berkley and UCLA and Business for USC, IU, Notre Dame, Michigan, UT Austin.

Here are my Academic Stats

-Unweighted GPA: 3.84
-Weighted GPA: 4.12 (Did not have access to AP/Honors classes my freshman and sophomore year, but moved schools and Dual-enrolled Junior year)
-No SAT (Got canceled 3 days before I was about to take it, hopefully, all the schools go test-optional if not and I have to take it I would probably get a 1450)

Here are my Extra-Curricular Activities
-Been in the Scouting Program Since 1st Grade
-3-year Varsity Basketball Player (Captin as a Sophomore at my old school and would be Captain for my senior year at my new school).
-Co-Founder/Co-President of the Dream Volunteers chapter at my school. (Basically, we do lots of community service and go to International Service Trips in the Summer)
-Work as a Math Tutor at a Local Mathnasium (8hr/week)
-Raised over $100,000 and packaged over 300,000 meals with a non-profit hunger organization to send to Child Feeding programs all over the world.

Here are my awards
-Eagle Scout
-Scout of the Year from my Council

Thank you, I am in not anyway trying to brag I just need so advice about college admissions.

What is your UC capped weighted, unweighted and fully weighted GPA?

HS course rigor?

Are USC and the OOS schools affordable vs. UCLA/UCB?

I would definitely take the SAT as soon as possible. Even test optional schools will still consider your scores in their admission evaluation and a good score can definitely differentiate you from other 3.84 UW GPA applicants.

Do you have at least one safety and several Match schools on your list?

My old high school did not allow us to take any AP or Honors classes Freshman and Sophmore Year

My HS Course Rigor for my Junior year

High School Classes Year-long(Out of 4.0)
-US History (By force there was no AP option because I am in a special "Middle College Program)
-English 11 (By force there was no AP option because I am in a special "Middle College Program)

College Classes Semester Long (Out of 5.0)
-Calculus 1 (1-year math)
-English 100
-Business 100 (Intro to Business)

  • Accounting 121
    -Business 201 (Business Law)
    -Econ 100 (Macro)
-Calculus 2 (1 year of math)
-Geography w/lab (1 year of science)

My UC Weighted GPA is a 4.05

IU is my safety school and I have a bunch of other match schools such as (Bentley, Ohio St)

I am hoping my Essays and Extracurricular can push me over the top at some schools.

So IU is affordable since you are stating it is your Safety school? Usually an in-state CA school would be the logical safety school (affordable) with a great Business program such as UC Riverside, Cal Poly SLO or San Diego state.

Thank you

I applied for business at all of the schools on your list this year except Cal, UCLA, and Notre Dame. I am also an Eagle Scout.

What I am thinking is that because your school offered no AP classes and community college classes are many times easy, colleges will look to your test scores to verify your academic credentials. Without it, it will be tough to demonstrate your academic ability to colleges. I think colleges will rate your academics as qualified but not amazing, and will look for your extracurriculars to determine whether to admit you.

Your application has a strong narrative of service (the combination of scouts and your service) which will definitely come through in your application and will help a lot. But most of all, I believe colleges are looking for initiative in extracurriculars. If you can get across that you took a ton of initiative in your activities like in scouting leadership positions, your Eagle Project, your service club, your job, and the non-profit hunger organizations, then you essentially demonstrate that you are able to perform and get things done.

Personally, I completed an Eagle Scout project, started and led other members in multiple businesses, organized three fundraisers raising over $2000 for my highschool investment club etc., etc. I believe this is what got me into competitive colleges even though I did not win any competitions or do any research or anything like that.

Overall, I cannot speak about in-state chances for Cal and UCLA but they definitely exist (I feel like in-state admission to UCs is pretty unpredictable). If you demonstrate interest to USC you have a good shot. Even if you are rejected, you can send them a letter and tell them USC is your first choice and ask them to reconsider. Out of state competition at UMich is very, very tough, and UT Austin is also notoriously tough and usually looks for very high GPA. Notre Dame is overall competitive as well. IU is definite but I would not hold out much hope for UT, UMich, or Notre Dame.

@roro1228: I agree with Gumbymom on post#3. You should apply more in-state CA “safety schools.” Btw, CalPoly-SLO is no longer perceived as a “safety school.”

Thank you @CalCUStanford and @tchit87

UT Austin reserves 90% of applicants for Texas residents. I agree with the above advice. You have a ton of affordable in-state options in CA.
