Admission Process

Can someone please explain about Dartmouth's decision process? I mean how much do they rely on essays, ECs etc etc

Thanks!!!

That is all important. Essays are really really important. If you have the scores, then the essays will make or break your decision.

I was wondering if anyobody would tell me about the whole process you know. Like there are auto-admits and auto-denys in some colleges. Does Dartmouth too has such a trend?

order of importance

gpa need to just to get in the ball game
sat/sat2/act more important than ever
essay need to stand out
ecs dont need a bunch ..just a few with 1 or 2 leadership roles
peer rec (means little)_
alumni rec (means little)

and of course legacy, under or over rep minority will alter importance of the above
and one more thing geography its good to be the wyoming applicant

and what if I am an Indian applicant?:) I dont think many indians apply to Dartmouth

i'm pretty sure there are no auto-denies at dartmouth (at least not that they would ever publicize), and there definitely aren't any auto-admits. my hispanic friend is near the top of his class at a magnet school (they don't officially rank, but he's gotten all A's and A+'s), has a few really killer EC's (leading a nationally ranked we the people team, 3rd at debate states, etc.), and got a 2310 on the SAT, and was rejected.

damn....there must be some reason to reject an applicant like that! Are you sure there were no drawbacks? His essays might be bad, recommendations must have screwed him....?

You recommendations are important as well because they show your character.
