Does going to one of the top private schools help you get into better schools? I go to one and was just wondering. Also, they grade much harder in private schools than public schools. I get A/B range grades because of their tough curriculum, when I would be in the 4.0 range in public school. Do they take that into account. Last thing, whats the difference between a weighted and unweighted gpa.

The first question is very, very debatable, and has been debated in numerous threads, so I won't reprise. The assertion that private schools grade harder than public schools is also debatable; true for some schools, not for others.

What is definitely true is that your application will be reviewed by regional counselors who are familiar with your school, so they'll have an idea of what the course offerings are like and what the typical difficulty level is. If your school is unusually difficult, they'll be aware of it and will make sure that's taken into account.

A weighted GPA means that an A in an advanced course is worth more than an A in a regular course. For example, schools might add one point to each AP course, so that if you get a B in an AP it's still a 4.0. An unweighted GPA counts all grades equally, regardless of the level of the course.
