After just getting my decision back from FSU, I was offered the freshman university scholarship which is supposedly offered to the "best freshman applicants". I was extremely surprised and happy to have received this considering I don't believe my GPA is too high.

My point/question: I know FSU sets aside 3 different scholarships worth around 9,000$ that don't need to be applied for. Is UF as generous with scholarships upon being admitted? (Without filling out FAFSA or applying for individual scholarhsips)

I don't know if they're generous or not, but I was under the impression that there are a few pure merit scholarships that they don't really advertise... I could be misinformed.

Yeah, I talked to a lady at a college fair. She said UF participates in Bright Futures, but other than that, they don't really give out any scholarships.
I'm not surprised; UF has been trying to reduce freshmen, not attract them. =P

I haven't heard of any honors ones, but I know some departments/majors offer scholarships...I think most of those go to upperclassmen and it is difficult if you are in a popular major

Your school nominates one student for the Lombardi. From this pool, the Lombardi scholars are selected. It requires at least one summer of community service abroad.

I did a thorough shakedown at the financial aid department and no, there are no grand ol' scholarships for merit floating around. Honors has absolutely zero and anything through the university is, like was said before, for upperclassmen based on dept and very competitive. They said that there is really no money available to be handing out and that students have to go to private scholarships for additional aid...
Florida State is offering lots of merit scholarships to well-qualified students because they are trying to attract people to their university. They are on the descent while UF has more applicants than it can handle.
