I guess, but how hard is it to get accepted if you apply after your freshmen year?

FV920- congrats and I'm glad you got in! That is what this forum is for- new ideas.

We're OOS and a lot of kids from our area have been talking about the school, especially the ones (like my S.) that want an alternative to Michigan State.

THANK YOU!

It's like we speak the same language, LOL.

Everyone at my school has spoken about Indiana and how they'd rather go there than state.

I didn't know about the newsweek accolade however, that's interesting. Maybe IU will be getting more recognition after all!

Here's the link to the Newsweek article for those of you who missed it. IU-Bloomington -- Hottest Big State School!!

Thanks, Bxian - I'm actually more than a little nervous about this. My son (applying from out-of-state) is basically an average student, with a 22 ACT and a 3.1 GPA. This puts him at about the 25th percentile for IU. He does work hard, he just has always struggled with reading and math, which have brought his stats down. When he loves something, though, he really applies himself - he's in AP Euro this year, and loves it. He want to be a music teacher, which explains why IU is at the top of his list. He's also applied to Iowa, where he was deferred, and MSU (my alma mater - wonder if that will help at all?).

Congrats again to all who've been accepted - please keep your fingers crossed that my son at least gets into IU and has a shot to audition for the music school.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Jkazoo-When we visited IU over the summer, the Admissions Office said that they will weight Honors/AP classes. Hopefully, this will help your son-I know it helped mine.

Good luck, Jkazoo! My son is a music major at IU. He's in performance, but is considering taking music ed as well, in case he can't make it as a performer. He is just not sure he can fit all the requirements for both in--they do give them a lot of work! But he loves the music school there and is learning a lot. Hope your son make it in, too!

Well this is baffling....my son got an email from IU saying that they haven't received his transcript or counselor rec form. These should have been sent about a month ago, as Michigan State shows having received them Nov. 3, and they were to have been sent at the same time. Is IU this far behind in processing transcripts? I'll be calling there tomorrow. Sure hope the high school hasn't messed up....

IU took a LONG time to process my transcript. They received it early October, and didn't process it until late October, about 3 weeks later.

If you're checking on One Start, don't. They are way behind on OneStart. I was accepted about 3 weeks ago, and One Start still says they need my transcript. They never update it. Call the office of admissions for status, or wait on the mail.

I agree with what Wolves said. And that goes for any school that has an online status-checking system. If you see something that looks off, call UDG Admissions and speak to someone personally. Get it straightened out right away and find out where you stand. With schools on rolling admissions, an incomplete application means very valuable time is being wasted. Don't delay!

Jkazoo-In October, they were quite behind in logging in transcripts. I would definitely call the high school first to see when the transcript was mailed (my son's GC took 3 weeks-a bit long in my opinion)-then call IU to check. My son's transcript was mailed on 10/7 and he got his acceptance e-mail and the "fat envelope" last week.

Thanks, all....called the guidance counselor - the transcript was sent 10/25; called IU - all is complete, decision is pending ("3-5 weeks" according to whomever I was speaking with). In the meantime, we've already applied to the School of Music to the tune (no pun intended) of $50. The deadline for that is tomorrow, so clearly we couldn't wait for a University admissions decision before applying. I'm just hoping that if (please, no) the University doesn't accept him, we can get our $50 back.

You can't get the application fee back if you aren't accepted. That fee pays the people reviewing the application for the time they are spending on the application making a decision.

Naw......it pays for all the trash mail they send to next year's applicants. That is where I am convinced it goes.

A2 - I highly doubt that anyone will be spending time looking at my son's - or anyone else's - music app before his audition. And I would think that the money is really for the time spent by faculty AT and AFTER the audition, deciding who to accept. Really, I think it would be unconscionable for IU to keep the music app fee if the student can't audition by virtue of not being accepted to the University.

But I've been known to be wrong. :-)

It's been eight weeks and still no word. I called and they said that they have everything, and just gave the excuse that they have a lot of applicants to review. I still don't think it should take eight weeks though. Perhaps this means something? Maybe I'm border line, because I'm a 2.8 21 ACT with great EC's?

I think they could care less about your ECs. I think you are probably getting the message that you didn't go straight from folder to admit and who knows how often the committee meets and whether they are evaluating the number of OOS that they will take. I'd say don't worry....you applied at the peak of the cycle.....I think you will likely be just fine. I mean they will be slogging through the stuff very soon.

As you may have read in other posts, they're backlogged with double the number of apps this year. For sure-bet admits, those probably fly out the door. As you said, since you might be borderline, there's additional waiting involved. All your materials are there so sit tight!

kinglin.....so chew your nails, worry, pluck you hairs out one by one.....basically fill up on junk food and watch the mail and email. We all know how hard this is. I cannot imagine you feel too good about it but it is what it is. On the other hand you could get the letter in tomorrow's mail delivery. Hang in there......you could be wearin the red n white soon, very soon. How'd you like the Hoosier V Irish game this past week?

I haven't been wanting to get anything in the mail. I'm hearing that accepted students are getting an e-mail first. Is this true?
