Admission to the United World Colleges

Isn’t it interesting how we each had one enthusiastic, one so-so, and one less than okay response from our interviewers? HOW DID YOU GET VICTORIA TO LIKE YOU? Haha, everyone I talked to that had her said she grilled them or made them feel incompetent. But I noticed that she singled you out and asked you a question in the debate about the death penalty. I was like, “Whoa, she seems to like her! It’s possible!”

I can’t really think about being rejected right now. I know it’s a possibility, and I feel like I didn’t really show the things I wanted to show about myself yesterday, but I have become so incredibly invested in this movement that if I’m rejected I have no idea what will happen to my senior year…or me.

Travelcrazed, where was your interview site? How was it?

lol, I didn’t realize Victoria was so hard on everybody! I guess I got lucky with her. We just sort of clicked. I mentioned something about salmon cakes in my interview and she mentioned that her family has them once a week. I talked about loving to read and she made reference to my mention of Ishmael on my application really excitedly. I dunno. I got the feeling that she really liked my application to start with.

Tim on the other hand… :p

Jealousy. :stuck_out_tongue:
So how do you think you did overall? Are you hopeful?

Honestly, I’m not very hopeful at all. Like I said, I thought I was way too quiet. And in my interview I rambled a LOT which I don’t think was the best thing to do. Who knows? Maybe I have a better chance than I think, but I doubt it. Oh, do all the interviewers have a say in selection? Or is that just selection committee? Or is everyone who interviewed on the selection committee? lol I’m counting on Victoria’s good opinion :p

Not just Victoria either. I’m banking on Andrew and Evans too because I had really good conversations with them that morning. I mean, every time somebody talked to us they were essentially evaluating us… so maybe I have a better chance than I think? lol Anyway, who all in our group do you see getting in?

Ladyjanet, I’m PMing you to keep names confidential and whatnot.

Sounds good

Well… today’s the day. I’m actually somewhat excited despite being fairly sure that I’ll be rejected.

I really hope this isn’t a cruel joke, but I just got an email saying I was accepted to a UWC (rather not specify which one for stalker-ish reasons)!! I’m still in disbelief, waiting for an email with a subject line reading, “Oops, we’re so sorry. Just kidding.” Hopefully I don’t have a heart attack before signing the David Schoar agreement :D.

And good luck to anyone else who applied!

Congratulations!!! That’s so great!! I just got home and haven’t opened my e-mail yet…

So… what’s up?

I got in too!!! I am sooo freakin’ excited!

That’s fantastic! To where?

I’ll private message you to keep it, well, private ;)

I wonder if embeezy got in. It would be awesome if all three of us did :)

I was rejected.

Sorry to hear that :(. You’ll probably end up at a great college next year with plenty of study abroad options. The interview was a good experience nonetheless.

Thanks. I have a backup, and I think it’s going to come through. I’m staying positive and plan on having an amazing senior year, and then hopefully going to Swarthmore in 2010.

Travelcrazed, where are you heading? PM me.

Hey everybody,

first of all, congrats to everyone that got in;) I was wondering if anyone knew if it’s possible to apply in grade 12. Right now I’m in Switzerland on a Rotary exchange (would be my grade 11 year) and plan on doing grade 12 back in Canada. I would be within the age range when I apply next year (I’ll be 18) and if anybody knows has any info on whether you can apply in grade 12 I’d be really grateful.

ps I know I would still do the 2 years at UWC even after gr 12 in Canada.
