Hello,
I am new to these forums, but I've read alot of helpful information, so I decided to post something that applies to me in hopes of recieving anything pertinant or important that could help me.

I am looking to apply to the University of Texas (Fall 07') This year I am a senior, and going into my senior year I have 22 credits. (need 24 to graduate) I'm trying to access my chances of getting into UT, but I honestly dont know, and that's why I have come here. I plan on sending early admission, and the GPA that will show is a 3.42 on a 4.0 scale, not the best. But, I can honestly say I've pushed myself through my high school career, I've taken 8 Pre-AP classes, and by the end of high school 9 AP classes. So far I've taken 4 AP tests and passed 2 of them. My intelligence is probably my strong point, because honestly I'm not a study fiend. So far, my SAT score is 1320. (730 math, 590 english) Over this summer I've taken a SAT course, and plan on getting my SAT score up to a 1400. (750+ Math, 650+ English) My extra-curricular tasks is most likely my weak point, I'm a baseball fiend, and it's consumed alot of my time, I've played for the HS team 3 years so far, and I've participated on highly competitive summer teams. (we average about 50+ games a summer) Also, I've participated in Spanish club, Business Professionals of America, and The HS Football Film Squad. But that's about it for my activites.

That is about the just of my profile. I was wondering if anyone can give me a good estimation on what my chances are into entrance into UT.

Thanks,
T DRAG

P.S. My counselor told me that i need above a 1450 on the SAT to even stand a chance, I find that extremely hard to believe and that's why I've come to this community for answers.

The first question to answer is 'are you a Texas resident?' Admission to UT-Austin is quite difficult for non-Texas residents. One reason being that every Texas graduating high school senior in the top 10% his class is guaranteed admission to UT-Austin.

You may also want to consider UT-Richardson and UT-Arlington, both in the Dallas area. Many people from those two schools eventually transfer to UT-Austin, not necesarily for academic reasons, but for the "college town" atmosphere of Austin. UT-Richardson has a reputation of significant $$ grants, even to non-residents. For a similar high quality academic and student life environment to that of UT-Austin, consider also U of Georgia, U of Alabama-Tuscaloosa, Virginia Tech and U of South Carolina-Columbia.

As long as you aren't trying to get into McCombs, I'd say your SAT and rigor of courseload (coupled with a decent GPA for the difficulty) will get you in. Good luck.

Yes, after thinking I've realized I've left some information out, I am a Texas resident from Coppell, TX, 15 miles north of Dallas. My counselor is basing her 1450+ thing on a 1600 test, which is why i think it's bogus, but I don't know for sure. I plan on applying to the engineering school, or the biology school, since in the future i see myself going in the direction of either electrical engineer, or anesthesiologist. I'm torn between the two, but plan on making a decision soon, and in no manner do I wish and/or see myself pursuing a career in business. I don't really want to go to an annex of UT, would much rather attend a main campus. (I'm already guarenteed a spot by the A&M standards) Any information that I should or can do to boost my resume would be appreciated, also does anyone have any expiernce with UT admission, like a friend, sibling, parents, etc. etc. that could shed any more light on my current situation? Thanks for the help so far.

I doubt if the presidents of UT-Arlington and UT-Dallas would describe their institutions as "an annex" of UT-Austin. Why don't you do a bit of investigation?

my class rank is 291/670s so top 50% =/, sorry i didn't mean to offend, they are just branches, and some are more successful then others, the main reason is I don't care to go anywhere close to home, that's all. The only one is UTD which is a REALLY good tech school, but besides that, I'm looking for a larger campus more distant from the parentals.

haha same thing here tdrag...but austin isn't quite far enough for me oh well.

your rank won't help you or anything...shoot for high SATs and apply - you've got a shot. UT is getting competitive, but not that crazy. Your current SAT of 1320 is quite high but a 1400+ will really push you over the hump. I'd also suggest just keeping your A&M guarantee handy, and then if you don't get into UT, transfer over after a year. Transferring is not too difficult as long as it's not McCombs! Good luck.
