Hi,
I was wondering if anybody thinks I have a chance of getting into Bowdoin with a 3.3 gpa. I know it’s not high, but there are two reasons for this: I took all the AP classes my school offered freshman and sophomore year, and all IB classes junior and will take all IB senior (going for the diploma). I also missed a lot of school (and therefore fell back on exams and studying) due to a health problem that I had for the first 3 years of school which ha snow been resolved.
Also: My ACT score is 34. ECs are school paper for a year, school lit mag for 3-4 years, varsity badminton team 4 years, foreign language saturday school which I attended for 14 years, 100+ volunteering hours, fashion club, art club, and 2 jobs. One of my parents also went to Bowdoin.
Does anybody think I could get accepted?
Bowdoin is a reach for anyone and your GPA will be low for the school. https://bowdoinorient.com/2019/03/29/admissions-class-of-2023/
By all means apply but also be sure to create a well balanced application list that includes match and safety schools that appear affordable (run net price calculators) and that you would be excited to attend.
As an aside, I would ask your guidance counselor to note your health issues during HS and emphasize that they have been resolved.
You should definitely expand your list but do not give up on your dream! Stats are not everything!!! Your personal statement is super important too and can (partially) make up for a low GPA. The same is true for your ECs which seem to be pretty solid (you should definitely specify what roles you had in those clubs. Any leadership positions?). Let me know if you need help with your essay.
