How hard is it to get into kingspoint? I realy want to go to USMMA, but i am worried about my GPA ( I slacked off freshmen and sophore year and am trying to make up for it). I currently have a 3.2. I have passed the SAT requirement and am taking it again in June to try to get the highest grade I can. I am on Battion staff in my JROTC program and have been a member of many teams and won awards for leadership and for my platoon winning competitions when I commanded it. I am an eagle scout and am active in my high schools band. Is this good enough? What is a competitive SAT score for kingspoint?

I just stumbled on this. I hope it helps.

it is almost embarrassing to see the people that get in here. the standards have become so low that many midshipman are being set back for academic reasons. basically, if you speak english, are considered healthy by dodmerb, and get a nomination, you are in. i really woudnt worry about it. personally, i had a 3.6 gpa in HS, and a 1280 sat and 29 act. my gpa at the academy is about 3.2. there is honestly no excuse for failing classes, but the admiral has been so merciful that people are not worried about being kicked out when they should of

In addition, the Academy is so desperate for women to join, that any female who passes the minimum requirements will get an acceptance letter.
It will also be very difficult for her to get kicked out as well.

Why guess? Apply, and remove all doubt...
The application process is quite lengthy, as it is for all federal academies.
But come ready, to work harder than you've every worked before.
Anything you can do to prepare for college-level Physics, Calculus, Chemistry will be to your advantage.

More than other colleges, USMMA is looking at the whole person, not just one number. They have had extremely bright individuals who couldn't make it through. It takes many qualities, most importantly determination. The person that seeks help and keeps trying will be more successful than those whose egos would let them ask for help or support.

KP has lost so much prestige in the services for the lowering of standards, it is a wonder that they are even willing to commission our midshipmen. The Stewart/McMahon team has done cartwheels to lower KP's standards and keep the numbers up, all to meet the Presidents Managements Agenda. See: ExpectMore.gov: Maritime Administration - Merchant Marine Academy if you want to know whe the standards are so low!! They have to keep to within 2% of the set drop out rate to meet their performance goals. Take a guess how many midshipmen get recycled to keep their numbers up????!!!

sad, but true...

Sadly, what USMMA2009 and Oliver Drab say is true. Ive seen the quality of cadets over the past few years drop dramatically. I had a cadet not long ago, that when the Chief Mate asked him what temperature water froze, answered 45 degrees.. Maybe it'll freeze at that temperature in some parallel universe, but not on my ship.. what the f***, over.. Oh, and this was a kid that bragged to me about his 700 math and 650 critical reading SAT scores!!! Give me a break.

Im entering my senior year and I am also wondering if I even have a chanse. My GPA is a 3.5 and i have done several sports like basketball track cross country and crew. I am also the president of our Leos club and FEA and VP in beta. My only other huge accomplishment is im going to nationals for a SECME competition. But ya my SAT scores suck so i still need to improve that..... I dont know if this helps you but this is where I am at.

As long as you can spell, punctuate and you know at what temperature water freezes.. youre probably good to go.

deepdraft1, you just made my evening. Thank you. Nothing against SeaKid, as I'm sure it was just an accidental typo, but I laughed really hard at DD1's response.
