wow. . .34.019 applicants for 3500 spots. . that is a tough one.
Not bad odds, 1 out of 10! Keep the faith:)
It’s much higher than 10%. My guess is that the freshman class is 3500, but they have to admit far more than that, possibly double, to get a yield of 3500. Based on 2013 data available from US News and World Report, they had a 53.7% acceptance rate. Even if they’ve had an explosive increase in applications, there’s no way the acceptance rate has dropped to 10%. Don’t know if US News and World Report data only includes Storrs or it’s 53.7% including branch campuses.
Not a surprise that there’s a record amount of applications–that often happens after a NCAA win.
If they accept 7000, 1 out of 5! even better:)
Hard to know what data is reliable, though US News and World Report is probably pretty accurate. On other sites, I’ve found numbers for acceptance closer to 14,000, so even better odds.
Would love to find comfort in the numbers, but it’s so hard to tell what any of it means. The key fact from the article is that they are mailing letters Friday. Until the letters arrive, numbers, unfortunately mean nothing.
exactly my point, just keep the faith:)
@TomMattson did you have the pay deposit option on your account?
Hopefully they will post decision on the website on Friday so we don’t have to wait for snail mail!
@pickledstudent No, I do not have a pay deposit option on my account.
In-state will get 50% tuition if you are admitted into the Honors Program. Minimal scholarship availability otherwise.
Does anyone have the Summer Financial Aid option on their accounts?
That blog post also mentions about Fine Arts students and some others getting their decisions early:
A limited number of aspiring students who auditioned for UConn’s School of Fine Arts or applied to a two-year associate degree program in the Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture already received decisions on their applications, as have those who applied directly to enroll in UConn’s regional campuses.
This does not have to do with admissions decisions, but I was wondering if anyone knew what students do on the weekends or how student life was? When I visited the campus, it looked as if nothing was around it, so I am curious as to what students do all day.
Based on historial data it would go something like this: 34,000 applications, roughly 50% accepted = 17,000 and the yield is around 25% which would put it at 4,250 enrolled - if you look at the article it says 3,500 at Storrs and 1,400 at the branch campuses for 4,900 (that would be a yield of 29% if historical trend holds).
@TomMattson - I am sure you will get better info from students but as the mother of a mech eng sophomore, my son spends a lot of time studying! We live in a fairly small town (3100 ppl) with lots of open space and cows so UCONN seemed like home to my son with the rolling hills, white fences and livestock.
There are lots of clubs and activities on campus, the SUBOG (in charge of activities http://subog.uconn.edu/ ) has movies, and trips and buses to off campus athletic events. A new little town center is being built (http://www.storrscenter.com/) with restaurants, pizza, burger places, services, grocery store and apartments and more. It is a nice addition to the area. As far as big city stuff and night life you would have to go to Hartford (1/2 hr away) or NYC/Boston (both about 2 hrs away) but I understand that there are buses.
@ConfusedMominMa okay thank you! That helps a lot! I grew up in New York and just recently moved to North Carolina last year (which are two totally different places), so I am familiar with city life as well as “country” life. It is good to know that there are still things to do for students despite the geographic location.
@TomMattson when I visited it was the day of the open house so there were a lot of students around for questions and helping with the bus routes and all of them said that the party scene is really awesome and if you’re not into partying there are a lot of clubs to join and kids who all live on the same floor tend to have group parties on the floor
@TomMattson congrats on both your admission and scholarship! As for nothing being around campus, my d does describe the school to her friends as being “in the middle of nowhere,” but considers that part of the charm - it is so beautiful that she absolutely loves it. If you want to really get a picture of student life on any campus, it is hard to judge from a few hour visit, so if u can plan an overnight, that would be best so you can get a better sense of “student life”…I realize it will be a bigger challenge for u because of the distance, but if u can possibly arrange it that might help clear up your questions. It looks like the “husky for a day” program is available in March and April for admitted students.
@ConfusedMominMA yes my d had to submit a portfolio for review as part of her application and she did receive her admission decision last month.
If anyone has been accepted if you wouldnt mind posting stats here:

To help future classes.
So we are getting the decisions next week now ?
