Admissions Decisions Class of 2021

My son got his letter on 11/22. He submitted his application on 10/12. Accepted into Engineering.

@Mombean @ATLBornNRaised Did the letters say anything about scholarships or honors/scholars?

Yesterday’s letter did not mention anything about scholars, honors, or scholarships.

The letter said that over the next 12 weeks he will receive the following: “1) A welcome letter from your new academic home, the college in which you have been enrolled, 2) An email from Honors and Scholars regarding your application status, and 3) A scholarship letter, if you were awarded a university merit scholarship. Morrill scholarship notification will come by the end of February.” So now we sit and wait.

Am I less likely to get the NBS if I didn’t apply to the honors/scholars program? I got accepted last friday. Stats 31 ACT 4.0 GPA. Need the scholarship to go was just wondering if this will affect my chances of receiving it.

Also, are my chances affected due to the fact my high school does not rank?

Can anyone give me an idea of how selective the business scholars program is? For reference, I have a 4.3 and 35 ACT.

@hahsndh you should get in. My son is a sophomore in the business scholar program…he was ranked 19/546, 30 ACT and had a 4.4 GPA…I think he was on the lower end though as he said most of the kids, especially this year have ACT scores in the 34-36 range. Great program and highly recommend it for study groups, networking and meeting people.

@jr28wiss my son is a sophomore in the business scholar program…I think he received his letter of acceptance into the scholar program in the beginning of April.

Active shooter on campus…at least one shot possibly four. Sorry to post but wanted to get the word out. www.10tv.com

NBC reporting 1 in custody and 7 transported to the hospital. Prayers for all on campus today

@dreamed I hope you and all your friends are safe!!

@soyunchico - Thank you, appreciate it. Yes, safe now.

Has anyone here committed to Ohio state?

@jr28wiss I know a lot of people have because of the Facebook and GroupMe but I personally have not.

@soyunchico What’s the facebook group and GroupMe?

My son has accepted the admission to OSU.

OSU rocks! The reaction by OSU and local officials, especially President Drake, was so professional in the face of such horror. I would be more comfortable than ever sending my son there.

@STEM2017 My son is a freshman at OSU so yesterday was a difficult day for our family. I have several friends whose children are applying there for next fall. I was curious whether this event would cause less students to apply for the regular decision deadline or cause those who get admitted to not accept. I’m glad to hear your response. I agree that from what I can tell this event was handled about as well as it could have been. Although I think there were certain factors of “luck” that helped create such a positive outcome (the police officer on the scene already responding to the earlier fire alarm for the gas leak, the assailant not having a gun, etc.).

But regardless no college campus is immune from this type of isolated lone wolf attack and what really matters is the response to it and in this case OSU’s response was immediate and thorough. The only “complaint” that I’ve read about is that the police wanted OSU to retain the shelter in place order longer as the minute it was lifted it made it harder for them to control the scene.

OSU has done quite a bit to be prepared since attacks took place at Virginia Tech, Purdue, UCLA, and some other places. They had made everyone watch a `run, hide, fight’ video and have linked cell phones to the buckeye alert system. The fact that OSU has its own substantial police force, and can also get help from Columbus police quickly, is also helpful.

If someone decides not to come to OSU for this reason, well, it certainly will be quite illogical. Similar or worse incidences can happen anywhere (and have happened elsewhere).
