Admissions Decisions - Class of 2022

For seniors applying in the fall of '17.

[This post was edited.]

People applying now (the Fall of '17) are not rising seniors, they are seniors. Just don’t want anyone to be confused.

Thank you for the clarification. My mistake!

The first batch of decisions start coming out the Friday before Thanksgiving. Can’t wait!

i believe that the first round of decisions come out the Friday of the week prior to Thanksgiving.

Has anyone actually confirmed with admissions if the first decisions will be out this Friday, 11/17? Is there logic this year as to who will find out that early, i.e. earliest application dates, stats over “x” etc? @osuprof you always have great insight

@Meant2B My guidance counselor told us that it would start releasing then.

@Meant2B I heard the first round of decisions comes out the day after Thanksgiving which is 11/24, however, me neighbor told me that her daughter heard from OSU on 11/18 last year. OSU is my son’s first choice so these next few weeks are really going to be nerve-wracking! Wishing everyone the best of luck!

@H0llyw00d good luck to your son. Waiting is the hardest part! OSU is top of the list here too. Hopefully we hear in the early rounds!

Wishing your family the best of luck @Meant2B! Sending positive vibes for everyone.

I don’t think it would be the day after Thanksgiving. I believe the first round in the past was the Friday before Thanksgiving and then the next one was two weeks later, the Friday after Thanksgiving week was over.

Is that date for ED/EA? DS said he wasn’t expecting anything until after 1st of the year but I don’t think he applied for any early status.

@Meant2B

I have no official information, but others are right that for the past 2 years (at least), first round of acceptances were posted on the Friday before Thanksgiving. 2 years back they came every 2 weeks. Last year it was less frequent … probably from third week of november, it was like 2nd or 3rd week of december before they posted more.

Please note that there is no logic to who gets the decision first. Most likely it is something like this: after the deadline they divide applications between admission officers, and they start going through the applications in some order. So, it has nothing to do with who applied well before the deadline or close to the deadline, or who has stronger scores. If you do not hear quickly, it is not to be taken negatively.

@osuprof thanks. I was stalking this board last year and know for the EA applicants waiting until January was so painful! You are right though, decisions came out farther apart last year than the year before. Fingers crossed!!

@FinalFor did you apply before Nov 1st? If so, I believe you are considered EA. OSU does not have ED as far as I know.

Yes first wave of acceptances for past two years has been the Friday before Thanksgiving. In the fall/winter of 2015, there was a wave two weeks after that (12/4/15), and then a week after that . My son was accepted in that third wave on 12/11/15 and he got his scholarship information a week later on 12/18/15. After that I stopped paying close attention to the frequency of the waves but I think there were waves about every two weeks.

Last fall/winter if I recall correctly there was more a wave each month - Nov (Friday before Thanksgiving), Dec and Jan. There may have been more frequent waves in January.

Does OSU send out an email or do students just check the portal periodically?

yes

@H0llyw00d Yes, before Nov 1. That’s good news that they may let us know in a week or two. Going back to read it they say by mid January you’ll have a decision so the wave of acceptances that @adlgel mentioned still fits in that timeline. Hopefully it is the sooner wave rather than later.

First wave of decisions comes this Friday starting at 3:30 pm, but you could hear anytime after that on Friday
