Sorry, also your date of acceptance. Thanks
When I say choice of major, I’m saying some applicant may not directly get into their major. I’ve seen where students have been accepted but not into their major, rather they were accepted for admission.
Major doesn’t really matter when they take you for general admission, you can still get into the school. Whether you get directly admitted to your major or a pre major program or into the exploratory studies I think they consider.
Will OSU be releasing decisions this Friday as well? I’m asking because I heard some colleges are closed for Thanksgiving until Monday!
Most schools are closed for Thanksgiving holiday. So I don’t think OSU will release decisions this week.
OSU is very clear on their website about admissions by major. See below - major does not affect the overall admission decision to the university but different majors do have different criteria for admission INTO THAT MAJOR. E.g., if you apply for a CS major you can get admitted into OSU but not admitted directly into that major. You can attend OSU but you will then have to meet criteria later to be admitted into your major so future admission into your major is not guaranteed.

"Freshman enrollment criteria
Once it is determined that you are eligible for admission to the university, your academic record is reviewed for enrollment in your major program. Some colleges and schools have requirements that are more rigorous than university admission criteria in terms of class rank and test scores.
If you are admitted to the university but not yet eligible for direct enrollment in your major of interest:
You will begin your studies in either a pre-major program in your intended college or in University Exploration.
Your academic advisor will assist you in meeting your general education requirements and advise you on completing appropriate prerequisites for your intended major.
Enrollment in a pre-major program or University Exploration does not guarantee enrollment in your major of interest. In the event that you are not admitted to your intended major, your advisor will work with you to find an alternative that meets your academic goals."
I was not sure if you were talking to me butttttttttttt…

I generally agree with @adlgel but let me add a couple of pieces of information.
As OSU has become more competitive, student demand has overwhelming been in certain areas: Engineering, Business, the `pre-med majors’ like Biology and Neurosciences, and a few others. This has lead to very low enrollments in certain other areas, e.g. Humanities. The faculty impacted has raised this issue lately. It is possible that some attention is being given to enrolling a reasonable number of students in low enrollment majors this year. Even if it is not a conscious decision, one can easily see it being a factor in borderline cases (Oh … another Biology major, vs. Aha … is interested in English!).
A second point: if you apply for a particular engineering major at Ohio State, it works as follows. If you are admitted to Ohio State and meet the college of engineering criteria, you get admitted as a pre-major in that subject. If you get admitted to Ohio State but not to college of engineering, you get in as `Science and Technology Exploration’ as your plan. So, officially no one should get rejected simply because they applied to engineering. One exception is for international students, who are never admitted to science and technology exploration (for some reason …), and thus will likely get rejected if they do not meet the (higher) engineering admission criteria. Also, in borderline cases for amdission to Ohio State, it is possible that applying to Engineering may be viewed as a negative.
Now, what is the difference between pre-majors and explorations students? Even the pre-majors need to finish certain classes and meet the criteria for admission to the major. However, Science and Technology Exploration designation might not let you even enroll in some of the pre-req classes for admission into the major.
@jr28wiss Thank you very much!!
Does anyone know when the letter will come?
I got my email but have yet to get my letter in mail
How about scholar? I know they say that they review once you get in but how long should it take/how do we know whether we got it or not.
My son got his letter today. We are in South Central PA.
Applied 9/28, still nothing back. Possibly hear today?
@jr28wiss . My son received his admission packet Wednesday. It stated that over the next 12 weeks you’ll receive an email from Honors and Scholars regarding your application. Also a scholarship letter, if you were rewarded any merit aid and a welcome letter from your new academic home.
@JPGator98 The next wave of decisions won’t come out until next Friday.
@bobOfBowie Does it come by USPS or fedex/UPS? I probably got in the same day as you, November 18, so i’m not sure why it hasn’t come yet. sigh
@jr28wiss It came by regular USPS. Hopefully you get it tomorrow!
Got my letter today - Metro Atlanta
