Admissions Decisions - Class of 2022

I recently visited Ohio State and found out there are Facebook groups for the specific Scholars programs. If you search “(name of scholars group) Scholars 2018” you should fine it, though I’m not sure if there’s a group for every program. The woman I spoke to said people use the group to find other incoming freshman with common interests and get a roommate. When I went, completely by chance I was also able to meet people from the Mount Scholars program and see their dorm room. Four of the people I talked to said they met their roommates in the Facebook group and decided to room together.

Here’s something that has been on my mind…hopefully, someone in this thread has an opinion/etc (I checked for a more appropriate thread, but didn’t see one as active as this one). Son was accepted in the 12/16 wave, has received scholarship info, but no Honors notice yet. OSU is his first choice, but he is holding off paying the acceptance fee as he is waiting on scholarship notice from Cincinnati (was accepted there in early November and offered Honors). I’m getting nervous because I know OSU sends housing options on a first come, first served basis related to the payment of the acceptance fee. We could get Cincinnati’s notice any day, but it also could be as late as early March…I really don’t feel comfortable waiting much longer (for me - it’s been way too long as it is). Anyone with experience re accepting early vs. early-mid March and how it has affected their housing options?

@osumom28 I can’t answer your question about the impact on housing preference by waiting to accept. But I thought it interesting that my D also applied to both UC and OSU. She’s also accepted to both with OSU coming in Jan wave. She’s received at least some merit notice from UC but nothing yet from OSU.

Heading to Ohio tomorrow to attend admitted students day (Fisher) on Monday. Any advice? Any recommendations what to see/do on campus or in Columbus? Anxious to see if we leave Monday with a Buckeye!

@wbg777 Not sure if you’re into sporting events, but you could check and see which teams are playing at home…I know the Men’s Basketball team plays on Sunday at 1pm (vs. that team up north…michigan) at the Schottenstein Center on campus. If you like NHL hockey, the Jackets play the Penguins Sunday at 6pm at Nationwide arena downtown (short trip from campus). (Obviously, I’m a sports fan…lol)

I live here and have rarely walked around campus - but when we went for our actual tour last fall, I realized how cool it is and how much I have actually never seen, so just walking around (with a map?) would be good even before your tour.

ME!

@wbg777 Did the Fisher this week… Excellent information all around. We toured the Fisher facilities. Many speakers spoke including a professor, current students, and an admissions representative. They went over the curriculum, internship opportunities, study abroad, and career placement. Extremely helpful. The weather was not great when we went, but had a chance to explore Columbus a little. Lots of excellent restaurants down on High Street as you head down to downtown Columbus. The North Market is a must. We even went to a very nice outdoor shopping destination about 15 minutes away from OSU called Easton, As mentioned before, there are quite a few sporting events and finding tickets is not very difficult.

Our first trip to OSU we did the school tour and we did not spend any time in Columbus. Just went for the tour and then we headed down to Miami U to do their tour the next day. This time we wanted to spend a few days in Columbus in order to get a real feel for the school and the general area. I must say that it is such a different feel to tour a school prior to applying and once we have been already accepted. Enjoy!

@wbg777 I visited Ohio State (and Ohio) for the first time two weeks ago and was there for 3 days, 2 nights. I went to an informational session for my major then did a self-guided tour with my family just to hit a few main spots I or my family wanted to check out. I went by my dorm where my scholars program is housed and actually got to see two girls’ rooms, a guy’s room, and the bathrooms as well as meet a god lot of people. I also went in the RPAC, the student union, the scholars office, and the MSP office. Because it was freezing outside and my family is not used to the cold, we mainly drove and parked at the parking garage nearest our destination.

High Street, which runs along the eastern side of the university, has a lot of food choices plus there are restaurants scattered throughout campus too. As @mrminsky said, North Market is great. First time I’ve ever had ice cream in below freezing temps. A street over from that is this place Bareburger which I went to. Super quirky atmosphere and interesting meats. Before I went, I was told by my teacher who used to live in Ohio to check out Pita Pit. Not sure how good it is or where it’s at, but that’s another option.

Have a great time! I can’t wait to go back and see more of Columbus/tOSU.

Is there a group me

@osumon28 @Banker1 Your correspondence is interesting. My S was accepted to OSU in Nov (incorrect business major put down which put him in Exporatory; called later and he is now DA in Fisher), received notice for applying to Scholars on 2/1 and no merit aid notification, yet. I believe the honors and scholars are in set housing but, someone may be able to confirm. S also interviewed for business honors at Cincinnati but have not received notification on that or merit yet.

Daughter admitted today.

hey guys I went to check if my portal was updated and it says the site can’t be reached. Is it down for anyone else?

For me it says “This is not a valid time to access the system.” @collegelehigh

My son also had a problem accessing the site this morning.

FYI…OSU often does system updates on Sundays…recall my OSU grad mentioning in the past.

Are all the decisions out? I didn’t get mine yet. I am an international student from India.
