Admissions Decisions

Thanks. I’m Out of state, and fortunately, won’t need much FA at all, so I’m hoping that helps. Is it better to apply with a major in mind like I did or as undecided?

Sorry for the disruption. Back on topic : )

Didnt realize you were out of state… i would assume its a little tougher but i still think you have a decent shot. What was your indicated major?

Keep in mind im only a senior in high school but i would assume yes and no depending on the major. Like i said I have a 3.83 UW, 25 act/1150 sat, and i applied for engineering. Now I assume i am borderline with engineering however if i would have applied undecide (didnt wanna risk not getting engr) i believe i would be in. I would believe this to be true for the Business/Engineering/Applied Science majors as well, however again just a high school senior im not sure there would be as much as a gap between something like psychology/some sort of studies, as to undecided. I hope I explained that well. Again take what i say with a grain of salt, however it makes sense in my head.

Now on a little different note I know you apply to the engr program at the end of your first year so im not sure if they admit you to your individual program during the admission process or the university as a whole. If it were the latter then it really shouldnt matter what you indicated on your app. would it? If there are any current osu students or parents on here who knows anything about this please dont hesitate to post.

I applied to the architecture school. The architecture school sounds similar to engineering in that you apply after your first year at OSU, so I don’t think it would really count against me. Although they can only accept a certain amount of kids to each program…

A call came for my son last night from Ohio State. My younger son got the call but didn’t get a number to call back. We tried the # from caller id but it said it was disconnected. His app still says “under review” online but all requirements are in. Does anyone know why they would be calling?

what time of day would they release a decision? 12 am? cuz ive been waitin for december 5th for a few weeks now, and I don’t have anything yet lol

Hmmm? not sure what to tell you amywom, thats sounds kinda wierd, i would try calling undergrad admissions.

I was just about to post the same thing, if I knew what time and days they release admission decisions it would stop me from checking all of the time.

Well during the week they don’t let you check your status until 6:30. And I have absolutely no clue; I’m in the same boat as you guys. Checking every moment possible. :P

amywom, last year someone from admissions personally called my D to tell her she was admitted. It was a very nice touch! I’m confident that is why they called your son.

Good luck!!

amywom, it was probably someone calling to tell him he’s been accepted. OSU likes to do that when they can.

S just received an OOS letter of acceptance from OSU yesterday. Postmark was 12/2.

Ahh this is so nerve wracking! Does anyone know if they post decisions online over the weekends? Cause this checking my status 20 times a day thing is getting a little old. :P

i completed my application on 11/10, but my high school transcripts were in really close to the deadline (around the 28th). no word yet for me, still under evaluation.

Alright I just called office of undergrad admissions and they said I had everything in September 23 and I should be hearing a decision within a week or so.

@ oplax07, The guy on the phone said your major has nothing to do with it, it’s about getting into the university as a whole so I think that is good news for me at least because of my stats, not sure what yours are but I think its good for everyone whose borderline wishing to get into one of the more selective colleges in the university (ie. business, engineering, architecture)

I also applied late september (the 29th i think) and got about the same response that he “guesstimated” I would be hearing back sometime in the next week or so

D’s online status today changed to “Admitted.” YAY! Now I can stop checking 3 times a day. I hoping the rest of you get your good news soon!

susanr64 could you provide us with information such as when she applied, and if willing, her stats?

Thanks!

We got this email response to a question about when those that had completed applications in mid semester could expect a status update in appstatus.

Thank you for contacting Ohio State! We did not begin sending out acceptance letters until after the December 1st deadline. Since you applied so early on, I can tell you that you will probably be receiving some sort of notification within the next few weeks. I know this is pretty vague, but hang in there! I’m sure you will be hearing from us soon!

Please let us know if you have any further questions!

Sure. D has a ~3.7 UW, 4.0 W, 30 on the ACT (I don’t remember the breakdown but she had a 35 on English and Reading, and Math and Science were much lower). Seven APs by the end of this year. Almost ridiculous amount of EC’s. Officer of 4 clubs, Editor of literary magazine, President of Ski/Snowboard club, webmaster of honor society, secretary of Interact, Circle of Friends, Tae Kwon Do junior instructor. She’s in other things I can’t remember offhand. Essay was not fabulous. Counselor recommendation was probably pretty good. She is also legacy student; both her parents attended OSU.

D applied on October 23. D is hispanic, and kids that are URM that qualify can compete for the Morrill Scholarship, where all the paperwork has to be done by 12/1. So maybe those apps get separated off in it’s own pile, which means the faster turn around time.

I submitted my application on 11/29 (just in time for the scholarship deadline), and my status changed to “admitted” tonight. I was surprised at the fast turnaround, but nonetheless pleased. 4.4 W; 4.0 UW; 2340 SAT; 800, 800, 780 on SAT II Chemistry, Math II, and US History respecively; good essays and a healthy amount of ECs w/ leadership positions.

great stats apple1984! We’re just hoping for D to not have to pay out of state tuition (if she attends) but I bet you have Morrill Distinction coming.
