I applied EA on 10/29
@shankmah I just read this on their site, Admission into each engineering major program is competitive and is based on a student’s academic performance in foundational courses. To assist students will academic planning and goal-setting, each year thirteen programs will publish application criteria that includes guaranteed admission standards for the following academic year.
My daughter (NJ) was rejected. 3.7 GPA, 1250 on the SAT, peer leader, lots of activities/community service and a letter of recommendation from a high profile OSU alum who is also a major donor
Interesting that she was accepted to Penn State Smeal which is highly selective and is ranked higher than Fisher
Ohio State publishes the minimum gpas for guaranteed admission into engineering majors. Students with gpas below the minimum are admitted on a competitive basis for most majors. However, CSE will not admit students without the stated gpa minimum and Biomedical has no guaranteed admission for gpa. For biomedical it is always competitive, admitted students have an average gpa of 3.6 - but it is a holistic review process, there are no guarantees based on gpa.
See the minimum gpas and classes used for calculations here:

My D wanted to study biomedical engineering at Ohio State and the fact she might not be able to get into her major was a huge concern. In the end she decided she wanted to study engineering at Ohio State regardless of whether or not she would be able to earn a BS in biomedical engineering. She had a backup major (mechanical) that she said she would be happy to pursue there.
Don’t think you need to be in biomedical engineering to pursue research/internships in the biomedical field. Most of the internships that seek biomedical engineering students also list a broader engineering degree like mechanical, biological, chemical, materials science, industrial/systems or electrical, etc. in the job posting.
@richfish823 Sorry to hear about your daughter. My son (NY) has similar stats to her. He applied for Atmospheric Science, so I think he may have a better chance of acceptance. Haven’t heard anything yet.
You are correct. Just look at job offerings for internships in engineering on indeed. Many disciplines can apply for just about anything. Many engineers might have or degree but never do that in real life. There is a lot of overlap.
@Shae1611 Can you tell us which state you are from?
Do scholarships come out in waves or on an individual basis
@WWAParent We’re from PA
what are the average stats for accepted engineering students?
"Engineering, College of
engineering.osu.edu
Admission to the college of engineering is competitive and requirements are designed to identify students who are prepared for the rigors of engineering study. Admitted students enroll as pre-majors.
There are no stated cut-offs for test scores or grades. Factors considered include:
ACT/SAT scores with emphasis on math
Strong college prep curriculum with emphasis on rigorous course work in math and science
Class rank or GPA
For the autumn 2017 incoming class, the middle 50% of directly enrolled pre-majors had an ACT Composite range of 29-33 and 98% were in the top 25% of their high school classes."

Same day I did too. Literally just got off the phone with an admissions decisions representative at OSU a few minutes ago and he confirmed I had everything in for early action. I asked when the next wave might be and he said that OSU often likes to release admissions decisions during the middle of each month so mid January most likely. My guess is either the 12th or the 19th. Also awesome luck to anyone who applies :)!
Also for anyone wondering stats for waitlisting here is my statistics below (My friend had nearly congruent stats and got waitlisted .)
Application Date/Completion Date: 10/29/18
Major: Arts and Sciences–Journalism
SAT: 1180 or 24 equivalent ACT
GPA: 3.478
AP Courses: I believe is 5 including this year. I have scored the following:
AP U.S. History: 4
AP Seminar: 3
AP Psychology: 4
Extracurricular activities:
Cross Country (Varsity)
School Newspaper Magazine (Sports Editor)
School Broadcast Program (Sports Podcast Producer)
Senior Class Cabinet
Part-Time Job
Animal Volunteer Club (Volunteer Coordinator)
P.S. My hope is to get at least waitlisted so they can see my current grades which are around a 3.8 to 4.1. If I am really really dedicated to Ohio State I may retake the SAT one last time.
Good amazing luck to everyone who has applied and is still currently applying or waitlisted.
Status: Accepted
Major/Intended college: College of Engineering
3.85 uw gpa, 1470 SAT
Decent ecs
Hope this helps someone!
In state or OOS? Which discipline?
I’m OOS, I got into ECE.
@richfish823 So sorry to hear about your daughter. My D’s stats sound somewhat similar, and we’re still waiting. The wait game is driving us crazy. She’s so nervous and trying not to think about it. And it’s on my mind all the time. We couldn’t wait for 12/14 to get here, only to still not know anything and have to wait another month.
Congrats to all who got in, and good luck to those still waiting!
Daughter received a letter in the mail on Saturday telling her she is getting National Buckeye and Maximus Scholarships. We are in New York.
Congratulations @1happypappy, would you mind tell us her stats? GPA, SAT/ACT, class rank. Thankyou
That’s a very nice package @1happypappy. My S17 missed National Buckeye by 1 ACT point - they didn’t offer him a penny of merit. We appealed in vain. tOSU was his favorite, but we couldn’t send him. Oddly, the typically stingy VT was much more generous.
Stats for my daughter:
Application Completed: 10/17/2018
Major: Neuroscience also applied for Biomedical Science
ACT: 34
SAT: 1500
GPA: 3.88
