Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2023

I submitted my app on October 7. Having too wait almost three months for this sucks.

Especially if it is just to expect a deferral next week.

@littledrose literally my worst fear for next week lmaoooo

Doe anyone know if there have been students in the past that had been admitted in the last wave in previous years? If its true that they just simply defer all applicants in the last wave then I will be very disappointed.

If you are here just to argue with those frustrated that they have not heard back, you can happily hop off this thread. It is perfectly reasonable and understandable that people are both frustrated and anxious about awaiting a decision from a college they would want to attend. Especially when they are reading that people who have sent their applications later than they have are receiving an answer and they are yet to move out of the evaluation status.

I completely agree @thewaitinggame_osu. Those who applied so early and still have not heard back like me, have a right to be frustrated.

I was gonna say, this is starting to turn into the PSU thread, lol. I think that OSU and PSU have had a lot more apppicants than expected this year, especially since PSU just got into the Common App this year.

And also, I don’t think OSU has anything against PA applicants. It is simply that the process is random and there are a lot of applicants they’ve had to get though.

I understand the frustration - I was frustrated as well. Keep your heads up!

I’m really hoping they don’t just automatically defer everyone that’s in the last wave. Can anyone shed some light on this?

@ca1171 I don’t think that’s true, but who knows. Your best bet is to probably call admissions.

Someone on here said that a EA applicant they knew last year didn’t hear back until the middle of February. I haven’t seen any other cases like that on here, though.

I am a current senior parent of a son who is still waiting and have been a high school counselor for many years. I have only posted once in this thread. I didn’t appreciate being corrected by a mother who is not in the admissions field. :). OSU does use weighted/your highest GPA! This is true of most colleges in Ohio. I’m currently doing updated research for our BOE.

I feel for all those who are also still waiting. I go through this stress every year with some of my students. It’s awful. I am also an Ohio State alum and agree with the other alums who are disappointed by this process. OSU has the most frustrating admissions release process that I have experienced. It is certainly better for families when a college releases decisions on a rolling basis or on one given date.

Just recently I was researching volume of college applications received by each college. Ohio State is not even in the top 10. I really don’t understand why they need to release decisions in this way. I plan to contact the admissions office in the upcoming months to ask questions and state my concerns on behalf of my students. I would guess it’s mainly for the best yield.

Please remember that those posting their frustrations are frustrated for a variety of reasons that are legitimate. We all clearly know that the decisions are not late until after January 31. Also, I have never heard of anybody hearing after that date who actually had a complete application by November 1. I have also never heard of all of the last students being deferred. I have access to all of the students in my high school in the status of their applications. I have not witnessed students receiving their decision after the listed date, and I have also never seen the last batch of students all being sent to deferred status. I have plenty of students who have not heard yet who should be yeses. My thoughts are with each of you, and I wish you each the best of luck. OSU certainly has lots of strengths, but so do many other colleges if that’s the direction you decide to go.

I can also just want to say thank you to all of those who have been posting in this thread. Being a parent instead of just a counselor this year is definitely more difficult. Reading your comments and information has been very helpful.

@osubucks93 Thank you for providing some clarification. This whole situation is just nerve wracking, especially for students like myself who have OSU as their top choice.

Wishing the best for everyone, hopefully we all hear good news this next Friday.

I do wish you all the best of luck when the decisions do come out. Waiting is never easy, especially with something so major.

Just keep your heads up - 1/31 will (hopefully) be here before you know it!

@osubucks93 Great post, thank you! I’d be very interested to hear back from you next week with the ratio of acceptance to deferral for those of your students who get a decision in the last wave. My issue with wave is that they do it random, yet they award dorm assignments and orientation based on paid acceptance. Our payment would have been made upon seeing the status change in the portal. No hemming and hawing here. You schedule your first semester classes at orientation and the earlier the better. We applied early September hoping to be first wave. We annoyed our counselor to get things completely sent in as well as a teacher for their recommendation. We could have relaxed and taken our time, right up til Oct 31st. It would’ve been two less months of anxiously waiting.

@equationlover Congrats!! We were riding this wave together for a while, I’m glad you made it to shore. As for comparing tOSU and PSU, I appreciate the fact that many on this board are exploring their options and are anxious to have them all in front of them at once. We on the other hand are only looking at OSU! The family bleeds scarlet and grey. We are all buckeyes in our family and my son is very qualified to be accepted. As an alum, I have watched us progress in many positive ways and strive to be among the top of the Big 10. We however need to fix our admission process.

Will they be this Friday? It’s the last Friday of January

@thewaitinggame_osu Amen!

me and my sister just tried logging in and theres an error page that says " oracle peoplesoft enterprise, this is not a valid time to access the system. click here to access hours of availablity. sign into peoplesoft." when you hit the click on hours link, it refreshes the same page. has this ever happens to anyone before? its never happened to us

I received my decision on 1/18.

This is my dream school and I waited all this time just to get deferred. With no scholarship money, I’m screwed. I could not be more disappointed and am confused as to why I was not accepted. Any comments/ criticism/ advice is welcome.
