Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2023

Enjoy…

I have a 29 ACT and I’m still waiting to hear back. I also have lots of activities, volunteering, clubs, etc, this process is long and frustrating for me, some friends were admitted yesterday with the same or lower scores than mine. It’s rough!!

@STEM2017 LOL!!! post #1600

@iamamom3 @benbiedenbach - My son was in the same situation last year as the two of you are this year. They release Maximus, then Provost, then Trustees. If you haven’t heard by mid-February, then you likely are not getting NB. We are OOS, my son got accepted in the first wave, we paid our deposit in mid-December, and my son had over a 93 GPA, 32 on the ACT, plus the usual Honors, AP’s Extracurriculars but unfortunately did not get any money from OSU (though classmates with lower GPAs/ACTs did). I’m not sharing this to discourage anyone, just as a reference point. They don’t have enough to give everyone, but they are one of the more generous universities. I wish you all luck!

@oj2018 I’ve had two kids go through this process in the last three years (and my oldest is currently at Ohio State) so I’m well versed in the anxiety and stress brought on by the college application process. I’m simply saying that no one should view OSU as being the only university that does admissions this way.

I applied oct 30th, however I applied to pre professional advising and my “status date” on my test results says 11/3/2018. I also applied for the Osu scholars program. Could any of these things be a reason as to why I haven’t received my decision yet?

I guess I should be grateful to be an in-state applicant, as I am guaranteed to end up at the Columbus campus (if I get denied, then I will transfer from a regional campus). I can’t imagine what kind of stress those OOS students who see OSU as a top choice are going through. This process has just been downright stressful and chaotic. I can only hope and pray that the students who apply next year won’t have to experience the same thing.

I have a 31 ACT and have yet to receive a decision. I have strong extracurriculars and three very well-written essays for them (Common App essay, Scholara, and Morrill). My GPA was a 3.64 at my time of application, which is a little low, but I was taking all college classes and now have a 3.83. I was already accepted EA to Case Western with a decent scholarship offer, so I’m hoping OSU sees in me whatever CWRU did.

Is Thursday the final day then?

Also, is everyone in this last wave going to be deferred?

@Collegemom4ever No, not everyone will be deferred. However, I do not see any possible way that they can get everyone else clear-cut decisions when they only have 4 days to do so. This past week, they only had 4 days to evaluate applications (due to MLK day, offices were closed on Mon) and it seems like the group who received their decisions was minuscule in comparison with the other rounds. I would absolutely not bank on everyone getting deferred in the last round though, but there will surely be a few who do if admissions doesn’t get to everyone’s application in time :confused:

@Collegemom4ever @TayMarie The reason why there were so few decisions is because they were being released every month, and now they’re being released every week. That has no indication on if there will be more deferrals/denied. It is just that they are getting through less decisions. Hopefully, they’ll get to everyone by Thursday, they might have to work more hours, though.

Also, they only had about 7,000 spots available before the Jan 25th wave so now fewer available spots for this last wave and ALL of RD. RD deadline is Feb 1 so they are still accepting apps. They will defer a lot from the last wave because they have to compare these applicants to the RD applicants and again limited spots left. It’s clear also that many (not all) of the remaining apps in EA are the lower ACT/SAT applicants.

@collegedadto3 I don’t think OSU admissions would lie to a guidance counselor and say that the process was indeed random when it wasn’t. There are people with higher than 28/29 ACTs that are still waiting.

Also remember ALL ENGINEERING applicants had to apply by EA. The engineering school (which includes the school of architecture) at tOSU is top ranked - number 30 in the nation. That’s a big draw. So you can count out an entire school of applicants into that 7K- so 8.622K+ 7K leaves almost 16K spots left. I’m not sure where you’re gettting the 7K data point from, but yeah.

Here’s where I got the data for enrollment of the CoE: https://engineering.osu.edu/sites/default/files/uploads/annual_report_2018.pdf

Does anyone know if admissions will be releasing decisions on Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs? Or will they all come out on Thurs (I’m leaning towards this but I just want to make sure so that I don’t get my hopes up for tomorrow haha)?

is anyone else’s portal not working?

do out of state students get good money??

@marie2001 they close it every Sunday for maintenance

@TayMarie Thursday. A guidance counselor called and they said a batch was being released Thursday.

@equationlover Okay that’s what I figured?
