Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2023

Good luck to all still waiting. My daughter called admissions and was told one more release on Jan. 31 not daily.

okay if OSU is really blind to majors, then why must engineering students apply EA? Just something I’ve been confused about recently.

Are scholarships still being sent out??

Admitted Friday 1/25

In-State
ACT:29
GPA:4.087 w 3.9 uw
Major:Business
Lots of extracurriculars and athletics

I’m guessing being “major blind” means they have uniform standards for admission to the university itself, but then the individual schools/majors may then have different requirements for admission to their program. But just a guess.

@TayMarie See what @clairescho18 said. Also, the reason why they had all students who were applying to engineering be EA applicants is because engineering is extremely popular at tOSU due to it being a top ranked program, they want to make sure that they don’t overenroll.

Daughter admitted today. She called the admissions office this morning and very respectfully plead her case to receive her decision. She is still waiting for other acceptances so not sure if she will attend OSU yet. Just glad the waiting is over.

Congratulations @collegedadto3 ! Good for her! Never heard of that being done before.

They may be getting a tidal wave of callers in the next few hours!

I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that I’m a bit concerned about this gripping arctic air set to hit the Midwest in a few days and how that might affect decision releases. I know classes rarely are canceled but could be if it’s as cold and historic a deep-freeze as forecasted. And classes could be canceled but administrative offices could remain open…or close also. Granted, there’s a lot more pressing issues to be worried about (like the homeless and outdoor pets during this deep freeze), so I’m being very selfish in my confession here. I just had to admit that the thought has crossed my mind that it could impact those of us who are still sitting on pins and needles for a decision ?

@HopefulBuckeye - not selfish at all! I totally get it. Being that the apps are mostly electronic, I’m sure they have a way of accessing the info remotely if need be. But even when classes are canceled, it doesn’t automatically mean offices are closed. And classes don’t get canceled very often either (13 times since 1978 as I read today!). Hang in there. Hopefully they’ll give you an answer today or tomorrow!

@collegedadto3 Congratulations to your daughter–that is awesome news!! …but I must say, with all due respect, was there a reason your daughter felt she needed to know today rather than Thursday if she’s not even 100% sure she is going to attend? Maybe I missed something, but we are all dying to find out and I can guarantee you that if accepted on Thursday, my deposit is going in on the same day!

@collegedadto3 Congrats! If you don’t mind me asking, did her portal update as well today to ‘Admitted’ from ‘Evaluation’?

@kesnyder5 Thank you. She wasn’t going to take the time to fill out the special scholarship applications (due Feb 1) if she was not accepted. She applied to 15 schools and many, many scholarships. She still has about 10 more scholarships on her list to apply for. Funny thing is, I have the money saved for her college so she doesn’t even need scholarships to attend. But she is very driven.

@osu4444 I don’t know about her portal being updated since I don’t access it. I’ll ask her when she gets home.

@collegedadto3 Thank you! Makes total sense–I don’t blame her! Congratulations to your daughter–I am sure you are very proud!!

OSU is notorious for their random was of notifying applications of their acceptance. My roommate’s brother went into his HS counselor’s office this morning and they called the admissions office. Counselor handed the phone to the student and he was advised of his status. In-state applicant.

@kesnyder5 Me too!! If I’m accepted I am for sure going there. I was thinking the same thing lol.

Would it be a bad idea to go to my counselor and have them call admissions to ask for my decision? With all of this talk about them notifying people about their decisions via phone calls, I’m becoming more and more stressed and conflicted to do the same.

@TayMarie, I can’t inagine that calling in would have any effect in the chance on acceptance. If I were you (and I’m in the same boat as you), I would just wait til Thursday. Basically 2.5 days until we hear our decisions, however it is up to you.

@Jg3452 I realize that calling will not boost my chances of getting accepted (they could already have my decision ready to go). Even so, I was hoping to get a decision before the last round so that I could fill out the special scholarship application (Due by February 1st). This is the main reason why I want to call. I will most likely talk to my guidance counselor tomorrow to get her insight on the matter just in case, as there is always a chance that they haven’t reached my application yet (though my counselor did send in my mid-year report today, so admissions probably got some notification of my presence haha).
