Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2023

@bluevader937 You just posted your stats and said you were deferred. Also how do you have different stats? The latest you can hear back after being deferred is late March. They haven’t even gotten to RD apps yet.

A bit off topic, but I feel like I am the mom of this thread. Haha. Still posting and helping people. It seems OSU and OSU engineering has become my expertise. :stuck_out_tongue:

@equationlover sorry I forgot to clarify, I was posting my friends stats who got deferred. These ones are for me, I applied EA on October 29.

@bluevader937 Ahh I see. Well your ACT is below their average, and your GPA is their average GPA. I’d say you have a 50/50 chance of admission, since this is a match school for you. Coming from OOS might help, but that lower ACT score than the average for main campus (which is a 29 ACT) might hurt you a bit. With that said, they do holistic admissions - and being involved is a nice thing to have.

@clairescho18

117 Sociology Majors have been admitted so far. Current Admission by College and Major compared to last year at this time are right here…http://oesar.osu.edu/pdf/admissions/NFYSxPlan.pdf

@equationlover thank you, I appreciate your insight. Do you think it’s likely that I’ll just be deferred on Thursday instead of just being straight up denied?

@bluevader937 Unfortunately I am not an admissions officer looking at your file so I can’t answer that question. However, with your current stats this is a match school, meaning you have about a 50/50 chance of either being accepted or denied. Again - OSU does holistic admissions, but I am just looking at the stats for now.

@SwedishChef12 Are you sure these are numbers from ‘this time’ last year and not numbers from late 2018 and early 2019?

When I look at the fee paid for 2018, the numbers are low and going up. Seems strange.

It’s an admission report comparison between January 28th, 2018 vs. January 28th 2019.

Well, my guidance counselor contacted admissions yesterday morning and asked about my application…only to find out that they have not even gotten to it yet. The person from admissions said that, even if my application were changed to a specific decision, they cannot release it over the phone no matter what. I guess the others who were able to hear their decisions through phone calls must’ve done some pretty deep prying to get it out of them haha The person from admissions also made it sound as though decisions will be released both Thursday and Friday.

@TayMarie messy

@TayMarie If they release decisions on Friday that would be a bit annoying even if it is a day later than promised.

I would expect all remaining EA applicants will receive decisions the evening of January 31st. The only unknown is if the freezing temperatures and campus closure which could delay it a day. Based on my experience, decisions are already made (and likely were made a long time ago) and just being released in batches as they keep an eye on their yield. I have never had an EA student not receive a decision on time as promised. All of my remaining students are very strong candidates, hopefully admits! ? Thank you to those who have posted links to stats. Very helpful for everyone. If paid acceptance fees are low, then the remaining students will hopefully be more yeses than deferrals. Thank you also to all who have posted their stats and other info. Good luck to all those still waiting for their decision!

@SwedishChef12 Thanks for posting the link at http://oesar.osu.edu/pdf/admissions/NFYSxPlan.pdf. Based on this chart, only 10% of the admitted students have paid their $100 admittance fee so far. One concern I had about the admission decision waves used by OSU was that students admitted in an earlier wave would be able to pay their fee early and save their place in line for dorm selection. But given the low number of students who have paid their fees so far, it doesn’t look like students who are admitted in later waves will be disadvantaged for dorm selection.

Does anyone know if there is still a possibility to apply to scholars after you get accepted? I’m really regretting my decision not applying to scholars.

Does anyone have a happy ending from a deferral last year? Did you really have to wait until the end of March?

@Watch37 You’re welcome. My son is leaning heavily towards attending Miami University regardless of when OSU decides to acknowledge his application.

What do you guys think for my chances,
29 ACT
3.8 GPA
In state
Clubs, sports, etc
Jobs/leadership and employee of the year

Yes. My daughter is. 31 ACT. Biology pre-med.

So OSU just posted on Instagram that classes begin at 11am tomorrow and offices open at 7am. Good news!
