Admissions Discussion/Decisions - Class of 2023

I am in the same boat and I will probably talk to my counselor tomorrow.

@TayMarie ohhh I understand. Well good luck to you, hoping that you hear good news if your guidance counselor/you decide to call!

@Jg3452 Thanks so much! Hope you hear good news as well!

Does anyone know when we will hear about Merit? I was accepted a a Pre-Major OOS student at the end of December and still have heard nothing about maerit aid.

@clairescho18 If you were accepted to Case I will be shocked if you did not get accepted by OSU.

@Dothma You will know about merit by mid-February and will only be contacted if you received a scholarship.

Deferred Friday 1/18

Out-of-State
ACT:25
GPA: unweighted 3.45
Major: Business
Some athletics and no extracurriculars

@collegedadto3 Did you find out from your daughter if her portal updated to ‘Admitted’ from ‘Evaluation’?

I’ve been deferred since early December. What are my odds of getting in?

-33 ACT
-In state student
-3.471 GPA (Senior year GPA brought down due to health reasons, but guidance councilor wrote an excuse note for this year’s grades)

-Application filled to the brim with extracurricular, leadership positions, internships, etc
-Major: Business

I’ve been accepted to every other state school in Ohio (OU, Miami, Cinci) and they really want me as well. I keep getting emails and letters from them, and even received like $20,000 in scholarship from Miami.

What are my odds for OSU Columbus?

@ReasonableDad2 I hope so! I have a feeling I will be accepted, but I know there have been a small number of cases where very good students thought they would be a shoo in and ended up getting deferred or rejected, so I don’t want to get my hopes up too much. I’v been holding my breath since decisions first came out in November, and regardless of the decision I receive on Thursday, it will feel nice to breathe again.

So I tried calling in to possibly receive an earlier decision and all they would say was that I would hear by the end of the month. I couldn’t get them to budge towards telling me. I wish Thursday was now because im hoping I’ll be admitted since OSU is my #1!!

I’m not sure if this is going to affect OSU (their admissions office might still stay open) but the team up north just cancelled classes for the day. I’m guessing OSU might, as well. A lot of local school districts in Columbus and near it have canceled school.

I hope it’s not just a big batch of deferrals.

Exactly what I was worried about @equationlover and what I posted about the other day! I know all Columbus City schools are closed and saw on the news that OSU students were signing petitions to close the university or at least cancel classes. As someone still awaiting a decision, I’ll be really upset if this cold affects this last batch of early applicants :frowning:

My guess is the decisions have already been made and the Friday release is already scheduled through an automated program. I really doubt they are all in a room reviewing applications at this point. If anything, the cold would cause them to release the decisions earlier.

My oldest (currently a sophomore at OSU) just sent me a text that classes are cancelled for tomorrow. As of 5:58pm, “OSU Columbus will close Tues at 11pm thru Thurs at 7am”

Not sure if the announcement immediately above will impact decision notifications because the alert also reads “Essential staff should report to work.”

@OSU1stChoice I’m pretty sure that means AO’s will be in office tomorrow and working on the admissions process. :stuck_out_tongue: I just saw the message from tOSU.

Is anyone with a 31 (or higher) ACT still waiting? And have any sociology majors heard back yet? I don’t recall seeing any soc majors admitted in earlier waves, but I could be wrong…

Does anyone have any insight or thoughts about my specs? Very eager to hear back, any comments are appreciated.
