Admissions Interviews?

Does Berkeley require/encourage interviews with alumni at all (or are interviews only for scholarship processes and not for admissions) to consider with your application? Are there any special circumstances for OOS applicants?

I didn't think they offered admissions interviews, but I just want to make sure. Thanks.

Berkeley, and all the UCs for that matter, do not conduct interviews for undergrad admissions.

they do have some interviews for some scholarships like the regents and alumni scholarships.

Yes, but those have no bearing whatsoever on admissions.

Actually if you are given one of those interviews you know you're in. Some people in my school knew they got in ahead of time that way.

Undergrads here are not worth any interviewer's time. Sad but true.

bearslair,

I don't think that's the underlying position. I think it's a sheer number issue along with a lack of funding issue. There are plenty of cases where undergrads at UCs are interviewed, including for scholarships and special programs. However, to interview the thousands of new admits every year would be astronomically expensive, and would be coming from an already limited pool of funding.

That's certainly a big part of it. I'd also guess that since many Berkeley's alumni are probably not as loyal as those of HYPSM, you may not be able to get as many alumni wanting to interview students, especially given how many students apply.

vicissitudes,

I dunno, I think you could get at least a few hundred of them easily...probably even thousands.
