Admissions = Luck?

Take a look at this reasoning:

ED Applicants approx: 4200

Time it takes for them to make a decision per applicant: 2 min.

4200 * 2 = 8400

8400/60 = 140 hours to make all the decisions.

Penn admissions office is open 8 hours a day.

140/8 = 17.5 number of days to make all the (ED) decisions.

My question to you: HOW DO THEY DO IT???

make a wish foundation lol

they have more than enough time

did you take into account how many people are working at the same time?

it's not that only 1 person works in the admissions office!

That is true, but they usually make the decisions in a group. (they vote for admit or reject) That takes 2 min.

A vote, really?

Ah, how Survivor-esque.

Aren't some people auto-rejects? Like they're thrown out before they even get past the regional director or they get like..10 seconds in the main office? I wonder how many people are included in that.

AH. That's so scary.

I doubt many are that bad.

I bet about 10% are. CC isn't exactly a good representation of applicants.

Yeah, that's one of the things that makes me feel a little better.

I feel like, where Penn's normal ED rate is ~30%, maybe around 40% of the Penn ED applicants on CC will get in ?

like i said, i hope they're having a GREAT 2 min while reading my app!

I think closer to 50% will get in paro...wishful thinking? Lol who knows

jyankee, the percentages were withonevoice, not me.

but yeah, i like that number too. lol

that's really weird lol...I somehow saw your name and his percentages...anyway lol...I don't have any strange disorders...honestly

They dont read ur app for 2 min. The regional director reads it (maybe 15-30 mins). They go to the meeting. They pitch for u in about 2 minutes....and a decision is made.

pretty lame....but whatever....If they don't want me, its their loss

Actually, I looked at the Columbia ED forum for last year, Class of 2010, and towards the end, someone posted everyone's usernames and whether they were Acc/Def/Rej.

31 of 59 were Accepted = ~50%
17 of 59 were Deferred = ~30%
11 of 59 were Rejected = ~20%

Maybe CCers are just overachievers.

if ppl come on a discussion board to discuss colleges, they are obviously really interested, so I would assume most of the ppl on CC are above-average candidates for colleges...

I'm actually sort of worried now, thinking back on the amazing stats many people had in those stat threads...

Indeed.

That's kinda cool, to think about half of us will get accepted.

what about the other half? OH NO!

lol i KNOW!
the other half... =(
