I've noticed that some of us are extremley concerned that they might be identified by an offiicer of a school they are applying to. My question is, what's wrong with that? Are some people just super concerned about their privacy? Honestly, if they do identify you and look at your posts, it might show them how interested you are in their school. The only way I can see this as a negative is if you've been rude in the forum or trashed their/ any other school.

Thoughts on this are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wheee, as you may have noticed walden, I'm completely hyper and actively posting on cc (a bit too much) so I'll reply :D :D :D

Well the thing is, let's say you applied to ten schools. Let's say they're all TSAO for the sake of familiarizing with normal posters on cc. Imagine if a Loomis adcom saw, and realized oh, maybe they're just looking at Loomis as just "one" of the schools to choose from, not "the one" but just one of the TEN schools they're applying to.

Or maybe you said you REALLY love St Paul's and that's your first choice. I actually don't think it's that bad to say you love a school, as long as you don't hint any direct preference like "it's my first choice!" or "eh, it's my safety." But that same Loomis adcom may reconsider you because if they accepted you, what if they're going to lose you for a really motivated student who is passionate about attending Loomis?

And of course the trashing and being rude. Also, you might come off as arrogant instead of rude. This is mostly up to interpretation, but really, what can you do to justify your posts if you don't even know if an adcom will read it? What if you make a chances thread boasting your stats and it comes off as arrogant to the adcom? Can you really justify that you're genuinely curious to know what your chances are?

^I agree. Like Saer, that can backfire because what if someone from another school you're applying to (if any) came on and recognized you, and read how much you rave about Choate, instead of their school.

It's a bit scary, thinking there are admissions officers on here. I don't want to have to worry that a few spelling errors are going to affect the decision they make. :D Too much pressure.

Yeah, it's too risky. Although it shows passion, we all say things here that could potentially hurt our reputation. We may say something inappropraite, come off as rude or haughty, dis a school, ect.

Ahaha, yeah. I've been really stupid though, starting with my username- which is also my email- and giving out specific information about myself. Like my city >.< I probably shouldn't have, and it might backfire on me later, since I'm so easily identifiable (is that even a word?) but I've only been myself on CC, and hopefully that's not a bad thing. xD

Also, if some adcom knew who you were and saw you referring to their school- as a SAFETY. Or on the bottom of your choice list.

yeah. And unfortunately, most of us couldn't help but reveal SOMETHING that identifies us (me included). Generally speaking, though, an adcom would have to follow at least 3 of you posts, and they'd have to be certain posts, to identify you.

The likelihood of an adcom figuring out who you are and that affecting acceptance is very, very slim indeed.

because the adcoms have better things to do than spend all their time on CC (unlike us losers)

I know that its risky- that's why I said secretly hoping. :D

This is not meant to spark an argument, and it really has nothing to do with this topic, but-
I think a lot of people lose sight of the fact that it doesn't matter they they got into ALL the schools they applied to. Just one school matters. One school you get into that you want to go to- that's why you only apply to schools you like, not safeties, etc.
