Hey everyone!
I am a current high school senior in CA wrapping up college applications. Before I list the schools I’m applying to, I will list some of my stats/info about myself:
-Double minority (LGBT and African American)
-First-generation student
-GPA: 3.77 (U), 4.02 (W), UC GPAS: 3.73 (U), 4.09 (W)
-No test scores due to COVID-19 pandemic
-Class Rank: 6/344 (top 2% of my class at a public HS)
-Activities/Hobbies: Student Government, African American Heritage Club, National Honors Society, Boys Tennis Varsity, Caretaker for late mother, Link Crew, Volunteering at nearby church. Positions I’ve held include treasurer, club president, secretary, and commissioner.
-Intended major: Sociology. I wish to pursue a Masters in Social Work after.
-Personal Essay topic: How my mother’s death impacted me and how I overcame this.
Schools I’ve applied to/applying to include:
-Harvard (Restrictive Early Action)
-Yale
-Columbia
-UPenn
-Princeton
-NYU
-USC
-Stanford
-UCLA
-UC Irvine
-UCSD
-UCSB
-Cal State Fullerton
-San Diego State
-Cal Poly Pomona
-Cal State San Marcos
I know this information is a little vague and doesn’t really showcase every aspect of my application. However, I would love some feedback from anyone willing to give me some.
Some UC statistical admission data:
2019 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCLA: 7%
UCSD: 33%
UCSB: 32%
UCI: 35%
Your GPA is low for the Ivies, Stanford, and the upper tier of UCs. Not having test scores will also hurt you, especially considering your GPA. However, you seem to have pretty good activities, not to mention your adverse background. Your personal statement will also help you out. I’m just guessing here, but I’d say that Harvard and Stanford are both reach +, while the rest of the Ivies plus UCLA and USC are reaches. Best of luck!
