Admissions Question

Just a quick question. I work about 30 hrs/wk and my long work hours have had a slight affect on my grades. I have a C in AP Calc this year and will be earning a 3.8 weighted at the end of my senior year's first semester. Last year I earned a 4.5. I got a 30 ACT and have a ton of extra-curriculars and community service. Does the C ruin my chances?

It probably won’t. Why are you working? If there isn’t a financial need for you to work (i.e: you’re not working to support your family or something like that) then you should quit work and focus on your studies. Otherwise, you just need to articulate the fact that you working is necessary for whatever reason in your personal statement (commonapp) or additional info.

Okay, thanks for the help. I’m working because my parents thought it would be beneficiary for me to step into the workforce at an early age. Working has been a great experience, but the detriments may outweigh the benefits in this case.

I think your work experience will prove valuable.
