I'm a junior. I'm not sure if I should quit my job or not. Schedule-wise, it's alright. I'll usually work wednesday for 4 hours and saturday for 8 hours w/ a sunday occasionally thrown in for 8 hours, but I feel like its taking away from my studies. I know colleges like to see it but I feel I'm losing focus from my studies a little. Please help

you can always manage your time. i survive with 20 hour work week in additional to 7 APs and another 20 hour worth of EC involvements

IMHO, it's generally good to put your studies first -- you're not just living to impress colleges here, you're also building skills that will carry you through college and over a lifetime. Your job probably does very little other than bringing in money (and probably a small amount at that). So unless

(a) your "job" is academic research, running a company, or some other high-profile job that will build your college/life skills (and be an enormous hook for college apps), or
(b) you really enjoy your job and would do it even if you weren't being paid

I'd suggest you quit.

Unless you are using the money to support your family, I say quit your job, or try working satudays and sundays only. And in the exra time you have during the week go volunteer somewhere. colleges would rather see you giving up your time for free then giving up your time to make some pocket money. That is just my opinion.

Just remember, you are in high school. It is your last chance to have a whole bunch of fun. Don't stress yourself out with so many things, that all you care about is what colleges want. Be yourself, and you will find the right balance of work, EC's and school. What one person does may not be right for you, so just go with the flow of things and everything will eventually fall ino place.

Again if you really need this money to help pay the bills or someone you love is out of work, keep your job, those things are more iportant than school

I also second the idea to either quit or reduce your work hours unless you need to financially support your family. Studies are your main focus (especially since it's your junior year), so try to get work out of the way if possible.

Colleges do like to see a little work experience, but it's not necessary. If you're working 12 to 20 hours a week for the hell of it, I strongly suggest you to reconsider your job. But if this income is important to your family, then I wouldn't bother changing what you're doing now.

haha i just have to comment on the name innocentstalker...i love it haha...thats great :0)

I say if you can handle both then keep your job. I work 2 jobs and make awesome grades. So, if "taking away from my studies" means, "I'm making a 93 in a class when i could be making a 100" then don't quit. But if it means "I'm making a C or below in a class when I should be making an A" then I suggest you quit. Fo sho.

^what she said.

I had my job for a almost a year, and finally quit becuase I was bored out of my mind. I used the excuse that it "was taking away from my studies" though. and when my grades did start to go down I was able to blame it on the job (even though it had nothing to do with it).

I really need to find a new job soon though...
