Admissions Questions

@ljinator7 Nope. I personally don’t think that they will release decisions until sometime in November but I’m not sure. Last year they released results around this time but I’m not sure if the deadline for EA/SCEA was the same (Nov 15th) as this year.

Yes, deadline was the same @Chopinspiano but it is looking like they may be employing a different notification strategy this year.

@fallenchemist that’s such a bummer (for us impatient folks)

@TexasMom0321

I know, but that is certainly nothing official. But this is the latest I have ever seen without someone saying they had heard.

@fallenchemist
That certainly gives me hope.
Thank you.

I have never commented on CC before, but wanted to let you know that I just checked Gibson and my daughter was admitted today. SAT: 2130 GPA: 3.9 unweighted/4.4 weighted. She applied on July 18 using the Tulane application, but her file wasn’t marked as complete until October 14 when the secondary school report came in.

Congratulations NashvilleTNMom and welcome to the Tulane family! (My son is a TU junior). This is the first acceptance I have heard of this year, so yay for you and your daughter! If you have any questions, there are lots of experienced parents here on CC (and of course, there is FC). If she decides to attend, we also have a very active Tulane Parents Facebook page.

Thank you! We are very, very happy!

I retitled this Admissions Questions to separate it from the other thread where people should post any admissions decisions.

@NashvilleTNMom Congrats!!

@fallenchemist Do full tuition scholarships override the merit scholarships?

@Chopinspiano

Yes! Sorry, they don’t let you actually make a profit for attending Tulane :open_mouth:

Generally speaking, Tulane (and all other schools I know regarding this subject) limits you to full tuition plus fees when you add up all your scholarships. Two exceptions of which I am aware: if you win a Stamps or Hankle (latter is Louisiana residents only) you get full ride plus some additional stipend. Full ride means tuition, fees, room, board, books, travel…the full cost of attending. The other, more minor exception is if you are a National Merit Finalist. Tulane students get $1,000 per semester for this on top of any merit scholarship. Which isn’t really all that minor if you get to put it straight into your checking account and use it as spending money. There may be other exceptions like that one, but those are what I am familiar with.

And even though you didn’t ask, it is frequently queried if the merit scholarship affects need based aid. The answer is, again, yes. If Tulane awards you $30,000 in scholarship money, that is an asset for you as far as Tulane is concerned, and any other assets that would have contributed to a family’s Expected Financial Contribution (EFC) still exist and count. So if, for example, your EFC would have been $5,000 before the award, it is now $35,000. The out of pocket to your family will not have changed in that scenario, but it could mean a lot less in loans. Now if your EFC was $45,000 before, the total of $75,000 is more than the actual cost of attending so in fact there would be some out of pocket savings. Hope that all makes sense. It comes up every year.

When do you think the first batch of admission decisions will be posted on Gibson? I have a 33 act and really strong ecs, and what to know that I’m in for sure before I start my Dean’s Honor Scholarship Project. I applied mid-September. Thanks

@jgalls

Looks like the first decisions are just starting to come out.
