<p>That info is in the Common Data Sets but for some reason, MIT removed their CDSs from before 2003. They used to be online, I am 100% certain of this since I've looked at them, although they were in PDFs or something before '03. I guess they were removed for consistency of format or something? That's not very nice... Maybe once the 2005 CDS is available they'll add the others back in, too? There's always hope.</p>
<p>Using what I see there, and info from Ben's/Matt's blogs, we get 3 years worth of data for you, which isn't sufficient but it's a start (and of course the total apps for 2006 hasn't been announced yet):</p>
<p>2005: 10,439 (from Matt's blog)
2004: 10,466
2003: 10,549</p>
<p>I'll keep looking for those older CDSs for you and see if I can extend the table. I KNOW they had at least 5 previous years online not too long ago...</p>
<p>I found these numbers on an Asian American site. They took these numbers from America's Best Colleges by US & World Reports. It also lists the number accepted each year.</p>

<p>I'm really depressed by the number of applicants for 1998. :(</p>
<p>In looking at this again it appears I may have read this wrong and that the data is for the year before the date listed. For instance the data listed as 1998 is for the freshman class of 1996-1997. So if I'm not too ignorant to understand this the data needs to be adjusted back one year.</p>
