I do not respond to CHANCES threads.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/2847417-post2.html

ok then what does johns hopkisn most strictly consdier in the admissions process
though they look at the admissions process holistically

This reminds me of the question from an interviewer who asked, if you were a dessert, what would you be? After giving the question careful consideration, the girl began to panic and said, "what would you like me to be?" How can anyone answer that for you unless you're pandering?

The best answer to your question is to be yourself and not worry so much about what Johns Hopkins is "looking for" or how much weight is given one aspect of an application over another. My advice would be work to create an application that truly shows who YOU are. If it is as holistic a process as they say, they consider all of it and ignore none of it.

Yah. I'm guessing at this point you've applied already so you might as well wait. It sucks, I know.

As far as chancing goes, and I am in no way qualified to do this, the only thing I have to remark on is the test score and GPA--they could hurt you. EC's look pretty average to me.

^ I agree.

so..am i in the ball park for acceptance to johns hopkins???

post on the what are my chances forum. While chances are often inaccurate, they will more likely give you a good number of responses.

i went to JHU for open house and all that, and they have said enough times that

SAT is not the first thing they look at. They wanna look at you as a person rather than a

student. Still though, it's JHU. I don't think they want academically weak people. There is

a reason why the mid 50% of the SAT are from high 600s to mid 700s per section. They

still look at the numbers and take them seriously. I know i am one of those hoping to get

in with my so so scores, but I can tell you that your numbers are far too low for JHU.

People with unweighted GPAs of 3.7 barely get in, but yours is weighted 3.7. So we'll see

what happens in May. I could be the one hiding away from the computer while you are

the one celebrating your acceptance. Anything can happen for college admission

Your main concern should be your low SAT I CR score of 530. This suggests that you may experience difficulty keeping up with the demanding pace of the academics. A 530 CR score also suggests that you may understand the material covered at a different level than most of the other students. An 1160/1600 SAT I hints that, even if accepted, JHU may not be the best choice for you.

I just read your other post and you wrote that a person was rejected from Yale with a

3.9 and something close to a 2300 SAT score. Look. Yale has 30000 applicants each

year. Let's say half of them applied when they have no chance of what so ever (ex:

they had SATs of 1800 or lower, GPA of 3.5 and lower). Then the remaining 15000 will

have high scores, tons of activities, and awesome essays and all that stuff. Just

because you do have all that doesn't mean they are in. Yale cannot accept every single

person that are qualified, because they have limited room. Yale accepts 2000 or

something like that a year. If they reject all these and accept the next 2000, they will

be just as qualified as the first 2000. That's what going on in all the other Ivy's as well.

With low scores like that, i don't think you should be so optimistic. You need to expect

the worst and not be surprised once you get the rejection letter. When there are 10000

better people than you, you should know what your chances are.

Three kids from my school this year got into JHU ED. One had a GPA similar to yours, but had a 23-something on his SATs to balance it. The other two were sports recruits, one of which had similar if not lower SAts than you and I'm not sure about his GPA. The latter student is worried about keeping up with the JHU curriculum. In all honesty, going to a reputable school is not as rewarding as going to a school that is a better fit. But who knows you might get in and love it! My best advice is keep your hopes high and expectations low.
BTW I'm from MD too.. Baltimore County. What County are you in?

i'm from howard county
i attend one of the top schools in the state
river hill high school

haha that was very bumptious
I'm from Towson HS... good luck with everything.

yea sorry about that

I have written quite often about how the evaluation process at Hopkins works:

Hopkins Insider: The Approach ... and a Brain Dump
Hopkins Insider: Three Months of Transcripts, Recommendations, and Strained Vision
Hopkins Forums -> Questions About Getting In???

Wow, that Hopkins Insider blog and those Hopkins Forums rock!!!

Rather than starting a "chances" thread, you can search the stats profiles (click the stats profiles link on the left) and see what kinds of stats got accepted and rejected last year. There's really a lot of great information on this site!

have recieved 780 on biology e/m, 430 on chemistry, and 550 on math level 2
how are my chances so far??

^^ I'm not going to lie... the 430 and 550 are REALLY going to hurt.. but awesome job on the 780, that is very good.

so should i have not send those scores to johns hopkins?
i have met the recommendations: 3 SAT subject tests yes?
should i have only send the bio test?
