On their site, Berkeley engineering mentions a 8.8% admit rate. Given that EECS is the largest by size, its a little hard to understand the admit rates for some of the other majors that don’t have huge class sizes. I applied to IEOR and have been unable to get a good sense of the relative competitiveness. Has anyone seen major-specific data?
For frosh admission, such information does not appear to be publicly available.
However, for transfer admission, some information is publicly available at Transfers by major | University of California . Here is some information for EECS, IEOR, and the similar L&S majors (GPA ranges are 25th and 75th percentiles):
Major | Admit GPA range | Enroll GPA range | Admit rate |
---|---|---|---|
EECS | 3.90-4.00 | 3.91-4.00 | 14% |
IEOR | 3.76-3.99 | 3.74-3.97 | 20% |
L&S (pre-)CS | 3.67-3.97 | 3.66-3.98 | 5% |
L&S (pre-)ORMS | 3.68-3.95 | NA | 29% |
Thank you. I guess this is the best publicly available data.
Thanks so much for posting this! Am I reading the chart correctly – the transfers are students coming from other colleges, right? Not transfers from within the college from another major? (And those GPA’s are the transfer applicant’s college GPA’s right? Wow!)
(Very depressing seeing the very low transfer admit rates for the CS major my D just applied to )
Yes, these transfers are coming from other colleges (mostly California community colleges in the case of UCs), and the GPAs are their college GPAs that they applied to transfer with.
