I turned 19, february 2nd.
I am a freshman in college.
I was medically disqualified from USMA my senior year of high school.
I re applied, recieved a medical waiver for asthma, with no nominations, and was routed to the prep school.

I'm a student at a community college, called Valencia Community College, and they're in partnership with the University of Central Florida which is just down the road. That is how many students from VCC are allowed to enroll in ROTC there.

So every thursday I have class in the morning, and then lab in the afternoon.
we have PT every MWF and Ranger Challenge PT is every day.

at first I really enjoyed ROTC but I think that was simply because I was getting closer to becomming a part of the Army I so wish to fight for.

I'm not satisfied with my ROTC unit simply because when I asked for a SROTC nomination from my PMS for west point, or my instructor, they would always allude to some BS story about why ROTC is just as good a choice as West Point. Not in my opinion. If I'm training to be an Army officer, I want the best dmn training I can get and right now West Point has that to offer.

ROTC lets you get by with minor infractions, but not West Point. ROTC allows you to walk by cadre or even officers and not salute, but not West Point. ROTC tolerates clowning around, but not West Point. it seems as though ROTC cadets are willing to settle for less. That isnt me.

I wasnt a contracted cadet because of DODMERB stuff, but not being contracted really stinks. You dont get Class A's, you arent on the preffered list for Airborne School or Air Assualt, your APFT scores mean squat... I felt as though I was separated from the battalion. I want to belong but instead i feel contempt for being ostracized. We dont even have all our equipment. Here we are into March, and I still do not have a belt for my BDU. Yes, BDU. Did I metion we're behind the Army innovation curve? The only cadets allowed to wear ACUs are MS-IV cadets, or the ones who are about it commission. If you're in the National Guard, you arent allowed to wear the ACU even if you have it, unless you're an MS-IV. If you were prior service and you have an ACU, you arent allowed to wear it unless you're an MS-IV. I'm not in either, but i think thats even more BS. And it wasnt even the PMS who came up with that rule, it was the MS-IVs who did.

ROTC to me is just a whole different scene and isnt something I do not want to be a part of anymore. I want to be an officer who is impeccable in every 'aspeckt' of Army life. I went to an FTX with my ROTC unit which involved other units around Florida and I wasnt please with the idiots I saw. I often wondered.. "they're going to be officers one day?"

Also, you're in regular college with ROTC. so you're exposed to all the drinking and partying. I do that now, but I dont wish to any longer. By eliminating that from my life I believe I can concentrate fully on my studies and succeed at what I live for. the Army.

I regret that I'll be leaving my friends because I'm going to miss them but its time to move on to bigger and better things. Now is the time to begin the journey through my lifelong career. It wont be hard to let go of girls because I've never had a girlfriend for that matter so I'm not worried about it. Marriage at age 29-30 doesnt phase me either lol.

sorry for the prolonged response but I hope you can understand where I'm comnig from. if you think ROTC is for you then by all means, take the opportunity.
