How significant is it if you are applying to Cal as an ELC student? Does it increase your chances of getting into Cal. Most of the UC's automatically guarantee you a space if you qualify as ELC. I know that since UCLA, UCSD and Berkeley are more selective, it may not carry as much weight in the selection process. Does it increase your chances at all?

Last year, 60% of the ELC applicants were admitted.

wait, i think what babyblue meant to say was that 60% of those admitted were ELC

Both statistics are true. Yes, it's a coincidence.

Since Berkeley views apps holistically, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Does berkeley know if you were a candidate for the program? I'm in the top 3 percent of my class but didnt get it because I took my foriegn language at a community college...

Oh yes, they know -- if not explicitly on the application, then by the report they get (your rank & total number of students).

what percentage do you have to be in to be elc? b/c back when we got the info, i was ranked top 5% but i also took a community college course. never knew it was b/c of that.

top 4% is what i remember

Yeah, top 4%. The college courses should be taken into consideration.
