admitted into Harvard- Seimen Westinghouse Semifinalist

Does Harvard look favorably upon Seimen semifinalist for admittance? Does being a semifinalist help you get admitted?

thanks sooooo much

What do you think?

I really dont know

Doing well in a prestigious competition will help with admission to ANY school. There are no guarantees, but schools are always looking for high achievers; Harvard is no exception.

well, there are about 300 of us every year. I think it is a worthy achievement but unless one has advanced significantly further, it really won't be a "hook"

If you want to do science or engineering, it certainly is a decent hook.

Does the list of 300 semifinalists include just individual or both individual and group winners?

bumpppppppp

Both. Does anyone know if the Siemens Corporation notifies our school and sends us certificates if we are one of the semifinalists? Do our names get published on USA today?

Why would we be mentioned in USA Today? Have they published semifinalists before?

That would be awesome

sadly i didnt enter beacuse i decided not to about 2 days before the deadline.

how long had you guys done your research for to become a semifinalist?

There's an article on the Siemens Website about a Finalist's Perspective on the Westinghouse Competition. He said USA Today publishes a huge story that lists every semifinalist's name and their high schools one week after the semifinalists are announced.

I did my research over the summer for almost 4 months but I had to do independent reading many months before even doing research.

I got a letter from Siemens today. For those of you wondering about getting your name published in USA Today, the letter said that there will be an ad in there tomorrow, October 24th so look out for it.
