Admitted: Open Houses

First post on CC... Hello!

Okay, so I've been admitted to a few schools for Aerospace Engineering, including ASU, UT Austin, and UC Boulder (and I'm waiting to hear back from 5 more). Each of these schools is having an invitational open house for admitted grad students to meet the faculty and learn a little more about the school, and even do recruiting. But they're all on the same weekend! Does anyone know if not attending such an invitational is a bad idea if one is serious about that school?

I am not at all ready to make a decision on where to go, but Boulder and Austin are very attractive to me and I don't want to set myself back at all, especially with funding. Any tips?

If you’ve already been admitted, then it doesn’t matter - you’re already in, so you don’t have to convey interest or anything like that. If you’re worried about funding, just explain to the one you choose not to attend that you have a prior commitment that weekend and you can’t attend. You may even want to let them know now and ask if it’s possible for you to visit another weekend.

Cool, I already emailed the coordinator at Austin to see if I can go another time (among other things). What about deadlines for accepting admissions decisions? I haven’t explicitly seen anything like those on the admissions letters I’ve received.

Generally the deadline is mid-April I believe right around NSF/NDSEG decisions. I would strongly advise visiting the school if you are interested in the program if at all possible. If I hadn’t visited the school I currently attend for graduate school I would not have chosen it! Emailing the coordinator to reschedule visits is a very good idea and I would have suggested it had you not mentioned doing so in your second post.
