Admitted Student Day- Anything on tap for parents?

@durna01 I had the same question. The overnight option was only offered for two of the accepted student weekends, and March 31 isn’t one of them.

@durna01 - I don’t think the sleepover nights are for Honors students only, although I am not sure. I do know that they were very limited and had to be jumped on quickly.

@loveagoodmovie - I’m glad your son had a good time also! I hope he is happy with whatever he chooses. My son is still waiting to hear from a couple of schools but UMD is a huge contender. I can see that he is quite certain that he would be very happy there and also find opportunities to shine.

@vandygrad87 and @NerdMom88 I just have to comment how much I love your profile pics…so dang cute, each in their own way.

The highpoint of the admitted students open house on 3/10 for me and my D was “brunch” at the Chik-fil-a in the student union and then ice-cream at the Dairy after the sessions were over. She said she would make UMD her #1 choice if the ice cream impressed her and it did!! my girl scout D went straight for the s’mores flavor and loved it! the marshmallows were even fresh! UMD did put on a great show and like others have said, big school = big opportunities.

@tigermomsrule - I would fit in very well with you and your daughter! Chikfila and ice cream is pretty much Nirvana!

@maryversity - thank you! My Berner was the most gorgeous dog I have ever had. She is no longer with us but I will miss her forever! We now have two awesome rescues, ages 9 and 2, to keep our home lively, but there is still a Berner sized hole.

I am looking for a detailed schedule of the Open House for 2017. If anyone can point me to one that would be great.
I found this one from 2013, but it’s probably changed. https://www.admissions.umd.edu/page_documents/ASOH_Program_3.8.13.pdf

I found one from 2017: https://admissions.umd.edu/page_documents/Event_Programs/ASOH_3_3_17.pdf

Looks like the tour ends at 2pm. Do they allow self guided tours after? We would like to check out the Eppley Rec Center, and was wondering if we could just walk in by ourselves?

Try using their app to see what’s scheduled…https://admissions.umd.edu/page_documents/ASOH_March10_Infograpgraphic.png

A few questions for people who have attended this already:

  1. At 8:45 AM, there’s a session with your college. What’s covered?
  2. How long is the above session?
  3. Life in the Residence Hall - Do they show you an actual dorm, or is this just a presentation?
  4. We can’t join the Eppley tour, but my son would like to see it. Can we do a self-guided tour?

Thanks!

@durna01 - I can’t answer the first 2. 3 years ago, we went to a Reslife session and it was just a presentation. That was ok with us, since we toured an actual dorm on an earlier visit. Things may have changed since then.

On number 4, there will probably be a lot of students going in and out of Eppley, so just ask one if they’ll let you in to look around.

@SoofDad Thank you. You said you toured an actual dorm earlier - was that part of an official tour by the University?

@durna01 - Yes, it was a tour, following an info session, on our first visit to UMD
