Admitted student day

My daughter is torn between Pitt and PSU. We’re heading out to Pitt and PSU in February with an admitted student function tentatively scheduled at Pitt, but since she hasn’t been admitted, I can’t schedule anything yet for PSU.

Is the admitted student day really all that helpful? We’re actually considering just visiting both campuses on a ‘normal’ day without any special fanfare so she can get a feel for an average day.

We’ve done both the Spend a Summer Day and Blue-Gold days. We’re leaning towards skipping the “accepted day” activities, but would hate to miss out on something helpful.

Thoughts?

For my son, the admitted student day was very helpful, even though he had already made up his mind about attending PSU. I think the most helpful part was the one on one talks he was able to have with the professors in his major. If your daughter knows what she wants to major in, then maybe speaking with a professor in that field will help her decide.
I also think, because PSU is so big, that just visiting on an average day, might be over whelming if you’re just planning on walking around by yourselves.

We attended admitted student days for other universities (not either of the ones that you mentioned). However, we found them very useful.

I think if you have to miss it, I wouldn’t feel horribly, but if it’s an easy trip it might help. The main advantage, as mentioned, is the chance to get a closer look at the college of interest. it’s also true that being on campus when going there is a for-sure choice tends to focus the choice.

If you come on a regular day, you can still go to Admissions and pick up a map and get visit advice. My students both did quite a few visits to other schools that way because we weren’t at the mercy of a schedule and could wander around however we felt. You will certainly blend in and PSU students are incredibly friendly when it comes to giving directions. Do some shopping, eat downtown or on campus, etc. and enjoy yourselves and it won’t be a wasted trip no matter what.

We are in the same boat! Accepted to Pitt for nursing and not yet accepted to Penn State. Not able to register for the accepted student day at Penn State but we are registered for Pitt. D really doesn’t know which she wants to attend so hoping acceptance comes in before the sessions are full. 31 ACT and 3.97 UGPA so I’m guessing she’ll get into Penn State

can anyone say what the schedule was for the admitted students day? it’s not on the website

@OffToCollege2022 When you click the “register” button on the date you want to attend, it takes you to an itinerary.

We went to PSU today and thought it helpful. It was very similar to Spend a Summer Day. The one difference was that you were split into your college and the kids went on a tour of the appropriate buildings, while the parents stayed behind and asked questions. They provided lunch in various dining halls. Different colleges went to different places. Would recommend if you’re on the fence…

@OffToCollege2022 general info session, lunch with your college, walking tour with your group, and then college specific info session. Kids went on tour of college’s buildings and parents had Q&A session.

Had two options. Blue was what we did. White was shorter, but I’m not sure what they cut out. Walking tour perhaps?
