Daughter found out this week she was admitted & is very happy & excited with her first acceptance, but we've never even visited--we are OOS, in Maryland. So the Admitted Student visit will be important. Any tips on how to make the best of it? Does registration for the admitted student days fill up fast? Any advantage to going to the earlier ones as opposed to later? Should we plan on spending the whole weekend to get the full flavor of the campus and the city?

Go to the event, but if your D knows what major/department she wants to be in, schedule a tour of that department/talk to the professors and students there. Not sure how fast the days fill up. I would go earlier because they will probably be less crowded (as a guess) but I also encourage avoiding Pitt in January/February when the weather can be REALLY nasty. Also don’t come between March 2 and 11. That’s our spring break, so the campus will feel really empty and you won’t get a good feel. Do plan on spending the weekend here if you’ve never been. It’s nice to explore around the campus and see what else the city has to offer so you get a good feel for the place.
