Most schools have events where the admissions team pulls out all the stops to impress admitted students and families. It migth be worth a 6 1/2 hour drive if UMTC offers this. The CSE just sent an invitation to the Dean’s Showcase but it is merely a two hour event, which conflicts with a trip we have planned in any case.
I also wish they offered one of these. Other than the Dean’s Showcase, they have CSE admitted student visits on most Mondays and Fridays, but the itinerary is very similar to a normal visit (only lasts for three hours). We also have a fairly long drive, so it would have been more worthwhile if one of these sessions could have been done alongside the Dean’s Showcase.
I also wish they offered things like “Shadow an Engineer” (where you attend class, dine, and hang out one on one with a student) and Engineering Days like Illinois. UIUC has so much going on for prospective students in addition to the many admitted student days. Purdue’s Purdue for ME event also sounds fantastic.
Even if we made the trip for the showcase, they don’t offer any classes on that day of the week where students can sit in and see the department in action. Those classes are only held on Mondays and Wednesdays. Kind of makes you wonder why they scheduled the Showcase on a Thursday!
