Trying to decide if it worth attending one of the Honors Day visits. We made a trip to visit Pitt last spring, and had the tours and informational sessions. Daughter is strongly leaning to Pitt, so it’s not like we need the visit to help decide, just don’t want to miss out on anything.
Forgot to mention - we are in Chicago so it’s a two day trip for visiting…
Hello!
Pitt Honors Day is a pretty good time, but I understand the need to determine if it’s necessary to drive. Here are some of the things that are offered:
-An in-depth look at the Honors Program
-Tours of upper and lower campus, and the city of Pittsburgh
-An information fair where students can talk to Pitt representatives about academic and extracurricular offerings
However, if your daughter has already committed to Pitt, she may be better off waiting for PittStart.
PittStart is our mandatory academic orientation for Pitt freshmen, it is held at various dates throughout the summer. Invitations to PittStart will start to go out to students who have committed to Pitt later on this spring. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much Pitt Staff for this and the other comments on this site - it is always so helpful! We might come over for one of the days regardless - Pitt and Pittsburgh are so much fun!

My S17 was accepted to honors and continues to debate his choices. He and some friends want to see Pitt again but the honors days may not may not work for us.
In your opinion, other than the honors portion, what would you say are the biggest differences between the programs on the Honors days and the standard accepted student days?
@BoroDad, The biggest difference is just the focus on honors. If you come on an Admitted Student Day you will still get to attend a lot of the same general information sessions, tour campus and the city, and attend our big information fair.
If Honors Day is a stretch for you, I would say you will still get a lot out of an Admitted Student Day!

@hailtopitt1787 My daughter did an Honors Experience Day this fall which was very enlightening in addition to her regular visit over the summer. She is hoping to live in Sutherland West but has major conflicts with school activities on both of the Honors Days for Accepted Students. Can you confirm if she will be able to get a tour of the Sutherland Dorms if she attends one of the other Accepted Students Days that aren’t specific to Honors? She’s trying to decide if it makes sense to come to a non-Honors specific accepted day. Thanks.
@AmyBeth68, The Upper Campus tour starts at Sutherland Hall, so she will have an opportunity to see the facility on Admitted Student Day.

@hailtopitt1787 Thank you for all the helpful information. I have a question about the admitted student days. My son was accepted to Swanson and Honors. We signed up for the February 19 Admitted Students tour because the date worked well and we didn’t want to wait until April 6 (which is the Honors day that we are available for). Is it possible to sign up for Honors day too, rather than instead of Fed 19? It sounds like there may be some overlap, but perhaps we could come to sessions applicable to Honors to learn more. We don’t have a good feeling for how Honors fits in with engineering, but didn’t want to wait until April 6th admitted day.
Thanks again for your help.
@cosmok, We recommend coming to just one or the other - choose the date that works best for you! On either day, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the University Honors College.

@hailtopitt1787 Great! Thank you so much! What a wonderful resource that you provide on this forum. I have learned so much. H2P!
Couldn’t attend any of the admitted students days and didn’t feel like we missed out at all. If you can attend then fine, but D was able to find a roommate, etc. without any issues. She had already been to campus three times and I’m pretty sure there was no new info.
@hailtopitt1787 Thanks so much. Cleared our calendars. My S17 is looking forward to March16 Honors visit.
@carachel2 You’re probably right it’s not absolutely necessary, but we’re not local to western PA and don’t know Pitt as well as some of our ‘family’ schools (UConn, Arizona, Stony Brook, Rutgers, and Maryland) where we have multiple family members and friends. So more to learn. Plus, each honors/scholars program is run differently, so my S17 will have a good compare/contrast with several visits in Feb/March including Pitt.
Enjoy getting to know The Burgh, @BoroDad! It’s a fabulous city and university.
@BoroDad, We look forward to welcoming you on campus!
@BoroDad yep! I didn’t meant to discourage anyone from visiting. If you can go then by all means go! But for those who can’t, it’s ok!
Thanks @hailtopitt1787 @Winky1 @carachel2
@hailtopitt1787 I’m also interested in visiting Pitt, but I was wondering how would you compare the create a day option vs the admitted students day?
@TheBurbs One of the things I’ve seen in general on the forums regarding admitted students day is that the students get the opportunity to mingle with a lot of their potential peers. I think with the create-a-day or departmental tours you’re exposed to a much smaller set of potential classmates that may not even apply to the school.
